Attendance and Absences

If your child is absent, you must submit an absence note by completing the following district form.

https://forms.dentonisd.org/Forms/absence-note

Emails to the teachers are appreciated but do not excuse an absence.

  • Students are tardy if they arrive between 7:40- 8:30
  • Part of Day absence is missing more than 50 mins of instructional time. That is arriving after 8:30 or leaving before 2:10 pm. (absence note required)
  • If a child is out for 5 consecutive days they must have a doctor’s note for it to be excused.
  • Students absent for 19 days may be retained.

It’s the Law

Texas Education Code §25.093 and Texas Family Code Chapter 25

State law requires students to attend school each day that instruction is offered.

If a child is voluntarily enrolled in Pre-K or Kindergarten, attendance laws apply to the child.

  • If a student has 3 days or parts of days unexcused absences, within a 4-week period, the district MUST send a warning letter to inform the parents that the student is subject to truancy prevention measures.
  • If a student accumulates 10 or more days or parts of days of unexcused absences within a 6-month period, the school district may file a complaint against the student or parent

School Nurse

  • Provide your student’s health information when registering your student. If your student has medical conditions requiring care at school, severe food/environmental allergies or medications, please email, call or come see Nurse Garner prior to the start of school and/or any time throughout the year if this information changes.

  • Your student must have up to date immunization records according to Texas State Law or an Immunization Exemption Affidavit in order to attend school. Affidavits expire every 2 years and must be notarized. These records are required at registration.

  • Health Screenings, including vision and hearing screenings, are provided at school for your student. These will be done during the Fall semester.

  • Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance to your student or your family. For more information, please visit the DISD Health Services webpage at: https://www.dentonisd.org/Domain/72

Arrival and Dismissal

Students can be dropped off from 7:10 to 7:40 am by car at either driveway, or parents can walk their children to the door or to class. Students are considered tardy if they arrive to their classroom after 7:40.

Breakfast is served in the cafeteria at 7:10 am.

Children can be dismissed as car riders (car tag), walkers, daycare riders, bus riders (must be eligible), and Extended School Day (ESD). Your kindergartener’s siblings will be united with them inside the building before car or walker dismissal.

Each student has a documented “normal” dismissal method communicated by families. Parents who wish to make a dismissal change for a given day must call the office at 940-369-4500.

Please bring your valid ID to sign your child out from the front office.

Here are some ways that you can help your Child at home:

02

03

04

01

Listen to your child read out loud daily.

Ask questions about their reading.

Ask your child to teach you the math they are doing. If they can teach it, they can do it!

Be your child’s biggest fan, but let them do the work!
