Who is eligible?

  • 11th graders who are in the top 35th percentile of their class (unweighted GPA), OR who have scored in the 92nd percentile on an EOC test in their area of interest (within the last 2 years). Classroom grades in the interest area can also be considered. Students who are applying in the area of fine arts, Spanish or Social Science can use test scores from any of the other areas.
  • Ms. DiPierno will determine test scores, rank percentile or classroom grades.
  • 10th graders can apply in the area of Choral Music, Instrumental Music or Dance ONLY.

Letters of Recommendations

  • Students need 2 Letters of Recommendations
  • One letter MUST be from your high school teacher, preferably one who teaches in your area of discipline
  • Second letter can be from another teacher or a community member
  • Send your recommenders the link to the Recommendation Form. They need to email the letter directly to Ms. DiPierno. Be sure to have the recommenders put the following in the subject line of the email: Student Last Name, Student First Name, Gov. School LOR
  • Ask your recommenders to save the attachment as: Student Last Name_Student First Name_LOR_Area of Discipline (ex: Math, English, etc.)
  • Recommendation form must be typed and only on the form. No additional paper will be accepted.

Timeline

  • Now-October 31st- View Governor's School Information Webinar password GovSchool2023
  • Now-October 25th – Complete the Governor’s School Google Form
  • November 8th - Last day for Recommenders to email Recommendation Form to Ms. DiPierno at lori.dipierno@cms.k12.nc.us
  • November 8th – Last day to email Completed Student Application Form to Ms. DiPierno at lori.dipierno@cms.k12.nc.us Students applying in the area of performing arts will need to submit their audition with their application
  • December 12th- - District sends nomination applications to Governor’s School. Students will be notified if they made the District nomination list
  • March 2023- Governor’s School selections and non selections will be mailed directly to the students.
  • Summer 2023- Governor’s School dates TBD

Changes to 2023 Governor’s School

​

1- Students applying in the area of fine arts will have to submit their audition electronically at the same time as their application to Ms. DiPierno. This will be in place of a second essay.
