WHAT IS STAFFING?

MUN NORTHWEST

7 of 15

OVERVIEW

  • Staff members are hired through applications and ensuing interviews to serve on the Dais’ that preside over debate and write the Background Guide for each committee a conference offers.
  • Staffers are hired 5-9 months prior depending on the conference, and spend the majority of that time writing Background Guides on 1-2 topics that delegates will debate.
  • The rest of the time is usually spent learning and practicing debate management and ROP via a program called Universal Basic Training (UBT).

INTERVIEW SKILLS

  • Take a deep breath
    • Before you interview, take a few moments to calm down and remind yourself how amazing you are!
  • Show your passion
    • We want to see your care for the role and the passion you would bring to it! There is no one way to do this, just make it clear that you care about this job.
  • Do some research
    • Know what you are applying for! This could be the conference you are applying for (ex: EDU is for education) or the role you are applying for (what does an AD do?)
  • Arrive on time
    • Show up right on time! If your interview is at 6:00pm, show up then. You most likely will not be let in early if you decide to arrive then, so it is better to take that time and breath then to sit in a waiting room.

RESUME BUILDING

  1. Find an online template
    1. Make sure to find a simple template that has all the parts of a resume! This will make your life easier because you can simply delete the text from the template and insert your own information.
  2. Highlight your best accomplishments
    • Your reader has to look through a lot of resumes each day and may see the same things repetitively. Make sure to stress the uniqueness of yourself and your accomplishments through the activities that you pick and the descriptions that you write so that you’ll stand out.
  3. Keep it organized
    • In addition to picking a simple template, keeping your resume organized is very important for your readers to continue reading your resume
    • Each section should be explicitly labeled and every piece of text should be within specific margins
    • Make your contact information very visible!
