“Linked mirror” geometry not described well by cylindrical angle

“Pathological” surface shapes or mirror ratio may need to be avoided

  • Not possible at the magnetic axis
  • Unlike QA/QH, overall scale of field strength variation not set by aspect ratio
    • Good initial guess is helpful
