Where My Animal Lives

Would you like to know where gorillas live? Gorillas live in African rain forests and on mountains. They live in a nest in a forest clearing. All gorillas live in groups, called a band, of 6-7. In a band, the adult male is the leader. The leader is called a silverback. Because of lost habitat, gorillas are endangered and that's bad. People need to protect gorillas' habitat!

What My Animal Eats

If I owned a restaurant for gorillas, I would make sure all of their favorite foods were on the menu. Gorillas are OMNIVORES, which means they eat plants AND animals. Gorillas eat fruit, nuts, berries, plants, roots, ants, termites, and of course bananas. An average adult gorilla eats 50 pounds a day. Gorillas rarely drink water. If I ate bugs, that would be gross!

What My Animal Does

Gorillas grunt and hoot when they're happy and angry gorillas really beat their chest. They knuckle walk and they also stand erect. Gorillas wake up at 6 a.m to 8 a.m. They eat, then they travel from 300 feet up to a mile in a day. Then they build a nest from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.(the nests are untidy). Female gorillas have their first baby when they are 10 years old. The female feeds the baby milk for 3 years. When the youngster is 4 years old, it is old enough to ride on a adult gorilla's back. Some gorilla troops have 20 gorillas or more.Gorillas have five senses just like a human. They live to be 35 years old. If I made a sound like a gorilla, everybody would think I AM a gorilla and would be afraid!
