Registering for the test:

試験の登録について

• The SAT given at HIS; it is not given by HIS. 試験会場はHISすが、HISが運営する試験ではありません。�
• The SAT is given by the College Board, using facilities at HIS. SAT試験はカレッジボードが運営するものであり、試験会場としてHISを貸しています。�
• Go to www.collegeboard.org, make an account, and register for the test. サイトに行き、登録する�
• The school code for HIS is 680886.　 HISの学校のコードは680886です。�
• The testing center number is 67179. 試験会場のコードは67179です。

When to take the test:

試験はいつ受験するか

The College Board says, “It’s typically taken by juniors in the spring and seniors in the fall.”

• Students at HIS should take the test during May of grade 11. HISの生徒は11年生の6月に受験することが望ましいです。�
• For current grade 11 students, this will be March 12 or May 7, 2022.　 現在の11年生は2021年3月12日、6月7日です。�
• Then in grade 12, students can take the test again in October and/or December. 現在の12年生は10月もしくは12月に受験します。

About the test:　試験の概要

• The test takes 3 hours without the essay and 3 hours, 50 minutes with the essay.
• Individual colleges will decide if the essay is required.
• There is no longer a penalty for guessing.
• The math test now allows a calculator on some, but not all, sections.
• All reading questions are based on passages.
• Some writing questions involve an entire passage, and others focus on a sentence from a passage.

リーディング、ライティング、数学、エッセイ（オプション）での構成となっている。

• エッセイ以外を受験する場合は大体3時間、エッセイも受験する場合は3時間50分
• エッセイを受験する必要があるかは受験する大学の指定に従うこと
• 「guessing（推測する）」ことは現段階では認められている
• 数学ではセクションによるが、計算機を使う事も認められている
• リーディングは文章読解になっている
• ライティングは文章全体について書く場合もあれば、文章の一部について書くこともある

The Importance of the SAT:　試験の重要性

This table shows percentile SAT scores for a selection of colleges. These scores are not from the redesigned SAT since it will not be released until May of 2016.

• Schools do not generally post “required” SAT scores.
• Doing well on the SAT increases your chances of getting into a more selective college.
• However, even with low SAT scores, students can still attend college in the U.S.
• There are also “test-optional” or “test-flexible” institutions that do not require the SAT at all.

新しいSAT試験方式ではないが（新しい方式のスコアは2016年5月から公表されるため）現段階のSAT試験での大学申請に必要になるであろう点数が表に記されている。

• 大学は「必要な」SATスコアはあまり公表していない
• SATでスコアをあげる事が入学許可を受け取ることのできる可能性を高める
• ただし、SATのスコアが低い場合でも、大学へ進学することもできる

Studying for the SAT:　試験のための勉強

The College Board has partnered with Khan Academy to offer free, personalized SAT preparation.�

• Go to www.khanacademy.org/sat.�
• Your child already has a Khan Academy account from math class at HIS.�
• There are four full-length practice tests, eight diagnostic quizzes, and thousands of practice questions/videos.

Studying for the SAT (cont.):試験のための勉強

• An app called “The Official SAT Question of the Day” has been released by the College Board.
• It is available for Apple and Android devices.
• The app gives hints and feedback on each question.

Summary:　最後に

• A good SAT score, combined with good grades, extracurricular participation, and a well-designed college application can allow students to access high-quality colleges in the U.S.
• Current grade 11 students should take the SAT on March 12 or May 7, 2022 and again during the fall of 2022.
• A low score, or no score at all, will not necessarily keep a student from going to school in the U.S.
• There are lots of free options for studying. The main resource is at Khan Academy.

• SATスコアで良い点数を取る事、学校で良い成績をおさめる事、課外活動に積極的に参加すること、そして入学審査書類をきちんとバランス良く仕上げる事がアメリカの大学進学には欠かせない
• 現在の11年生は2021年6月5日のSATおよび2021年秋のSATを受験することをおすすめします
• スコアが低い場合、もしくは受験していない場合でもアメリカの大学へ進学することは可能
• お金をかけずに準備する、試験勉強を行うことは可能。カンアカデミーなどを活用すること
