CURRICULUM

The School District of Philadelphia uses Illustrative Math as its K-5 core mathematics curriculum, a problem-based approach designed to deepen student understanding through hands-on problem-solving and collaboration. This district-wide implementation began in 2023-24, with the goal of fostering equity and achievement by moving toward inquiry-based learning, though challenges with foundational learning and implementation pacing remain.

Here at Moore, we follow the School District of Philadelphia's current English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum for grades K-5. This curriculum is the EL Education program, a structured literacy approach grounded in the science of reading. This new curriculum, fully phased in for the 2024-25 school year, emphasizes foundational reading skills and engaging students with texts through daily writing and evidence-based discussions to improve literacy and support the district's academic goals.

The School District of Philadelphia just adopted the Amplify Science curriculum in K-5, complemented by Mystery Science, all of which emphasize phenomena-based learning, hands-on investigation, and scientific reasoning grounded in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
