Social Studies
In our first unit, we will learn about being part of a team and community. Our second unit focuses on cultures and traditions around the world. Our final unit is called Food Trucks and students learn about economic concepts.
Science Units
Animal Adaptations- Students learn what it means for an organism to be adapted to its environment and how different adaptations can be categorized. Through various investigations, students explore an example of adaptations for protection, camouflage, food, and locomotion.
Light and Sound-In this module, students investigate light and sound, including vibration from sound waves and the effect of different materials on the path of a beam of light.
Observing the Sun, Moon, and Stars- Throughout the module, students document patterns as they observe the Sun, moon, and stars.
Specials:
Daily from 2:50-3:40 with an ABCD rotation
Students need to wear tennis shoes on PE days.
PE Days
Fox/Duvall- A/C
Reed/Dinga- B/D
Homework
Students are expected to read daily at home for homework. They will bring home black and white decodable books every 3 weeks- at the end of a unit. These can be kept at home. These should feel familiar to your child as we have read them a few times together in class.
Recess/Lunch/
Snack/Birthday
Students can have a daily snack from home. I can not give snacks to students per Parkway Food Policy
We love celebrating birthdays, but we can not distribute treats for birthdays. Students will be celebrated within their own class and have the Birthday Bear visit them! Students love handing out small items like pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. for birthdays. This can get costly for families so do not feel like you need to send in a special item, but know that it is an option.
