Application Process

  • You will receive an application link with the provider name.
  • Begin your application process by clicking the application link.
  • Participants will be selected through lottery.

Step 1: Gather Your Required Documents

Working Papers:

  • You MUST apply for working papers if you’re under age 18.
  • How to Obtain Working Papers?
    • Ask for an application form in Room 128 or Room 136.
    • Get a Certificate of Physical Fitness from your doctor in order to apply for the working papers.
    • Return completed application form with your doctor’s certificate to RM 128. Remember to bring social security card & birth certificate.

Proof of Social Security

Signed copy of Social Security Card

Employment Authorization

Report Card (Within the last months), Official School Transcript, Valid U.S. Passport (signed), NYS Driver/Non Driver ID, Alien Registration Card, etc…

Proof of Age

Step 2: Enrollment Process Begins

*ONLY If You Are Accepted

  • You’ll be sent a link that will direct you to the SYEP participant portal.
  • Create a NYC.ID Account (DO NOT USE BHS EMAIL TO SIGN UP. PERSONAL EMAILS ONLY).
  • Complete all the required documents on the SYEP participant portal.
  • Once you have been selected, you ONLY have 3 days to upload ALL of your documents. If they are NOT uploaded by the deadline, your application is placed back into the lottery.

Step 3: Sign up for Direct Deposit

  • Click this link to create an account: https://participant.yepsonline.org/

  • Create an account. When creating an account, be sure to use the same email you used for the portal.

  • After your account is created, click the “Direct Deposit” tab on the top of your screen
    • If you do not sign up for direct deposit, you will automatically be sent a payroll card (to the address placed on your application).

Step 4: Hats & Ladders

Upon completion of the enrollment process, you must complete the mandatory SYEP orientation tasks inside of Hats & Ladders.

  • You are given 10 days to complete your Hats and Ladders orientation and must have at least 2000 XP.

Completing your tasks will earn you XP.

Step 5: Attend Orientation

  • An email will be sent out with a Google Form listing all the session times that SYEP is offering.
  • You may pick which session best fits your schedule.
  • THIS ORIENTATION IS MANDATORY.

Step 6: Sexual Harassment Training

Complete the mandatory sexual harassment training.

Step 7: Confirmation Email

  • If you have successfully completed steps 1-6, you will receive a worksite catalog by email.

(If you have been selected to work in BHS, you don’t receive a catalog)

  • You should then receive a SYEP worksite confirmation email.
    • Reach out to your supervisor - introduce yourself and create your work schedule.
  • *If you do not receive your worksite information, you may be missing either documents or Hats & Ladders.

Step 8: Attend the informational meeting

Attend the mandatory (virtual) SYEP Info session.

  • The meeting will go over basic information such as what you will be doing, when it starts, how to track hours, pay cycle, responsibilities, etc.

  • If you have any questions, save them for this meeting.
