Dual Credit

2 of 15

What is Dual Credit and why take it?

Dual Credit is taking a college class that counts for high school credit and college credit at the same time.

Dual credit is considerably cheaper than taking the same course as college credit only, and it helps you get out of college faster.

Things to keep in mind….

  • it is not the only way to get college credit (AP courses)
  • it probably won't transfer to out of state colleges or private colleges
  • you need transportation to and from NCTC or plan to walk fast
  • it can mess with your scheduling of electives, especially if you are in 6th period athletics or biomedical classes
  • fall and spring semesters are separate, you have to register and pay for them separately
  • some are all online (are you good at online learning?)
  • some that are in person have to go online if they don't have enough instructors
  • it can make your university work load consist of having to take more upper level classes sooner without having easier classes to break up your load, and you will need to know your major sooner

TS I Dates:

Thursday, November 14. 2024

  • Scholarship information will be on the NCTC website in November, you can apply in early spring.
  • NCTC will be on campus Wednesdays to help you fill that out from 1:00 - 3:00
  • Free/Reduced lunch students get 6 hrs for free and do not need to fill out the scholarship app. That is the equal to 2 classes.

Step 5: Pay

  • If you receive a scholarship, you will get an email where you "accept" the award. If you do not accept it by the deadline, you lose it.
  • If you still owe any tuition, you pay for your courses online in your One Login account or at NCTC. You will have tuition for the Fall semester AND the Spring Semester

Students do get dropped for nonpayment. So it is a good idea to pay or set up a payment plan early.

**They email the student, not the parents.**
