Our What of the research experience

“A multigenre paper arises from research, experience, and imagination. It is not an uninterrupted expository monolog nor a seamless narrative nor a collection of poems. A multigenre paper is composed of many genres and subgenres, each piece self-contained, making a point of its own, yet connected by theme or topic and sometimes by language, images, and content. In addition to many genres, a multigenre paper may also contain many voices, not just the author’s. The trick is to make such a paper hang together” (Romano, x-xi).
Seeing is believing. Student examples from 2018-2019. Images are linked to full “papers”.

The cognitive dissonance of saying YES...
“When Mrs. Ostrom announced that the class was going to have an essay I immediately thought that it was going to be the worst unit in English. But then she said we could choose any topic we want. Usually when teachers say that they really don’t mean anything because we could choose something really inappropriate for school. So I tested her by asking if I could research Deadpool - one of Marvel’s most inappropriate characters they have. It shocked me when she said I could research him. Let’s be honest though, researching Deadpool wouldn’t have even gotten me a page. So after words I actually gave it a good thought and for about five minutes I was thinking about something that would be hard to research but not extenuating. At the end, as you can all tell, I went with Stan Lee.”
