MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to inspire and develop innovative, creative, self-directed learners, one scholar at a time.

Our vision is to create a collaborative virtual learning community, inspiring scholars to appreciate the ways in which arts and sciences nurture a curiosity for life-long learning, and prepare scholars to take responsibility for their future success.

RTI Virtual Summer Camp

Purpose:

  • In order to continue to support scholar academic progress, Compass will provide targeted response to intervention (RTI) for scholars who meet specific indicators.

Criteria for indicators:

  • The Following criteria was used to identify scholars who were invited to participate in RTI Virtual Summer Camp:
  • First: Currently enrolled scholars who will be in grades 1st through 8th grade during the 2023-24 school year.
  • Then:Identified as needing intervention/urgent intervention for 4 testing cycles (*MOY 22, EOY 22, BOY 22, MOY 23)
  • Lastly (if availability and space):Identified as needing intervention/urgent intervention for 2 testing cycles (*BOY 22, MOY 23) and showed a decrease in proficiency

*EOY: End of Year BOY: Beginning of Year MOY: Middle of Year

RTI Virtual Summer Camp

Program Overview:

  • Scholars were to work daily in iXL for reading and math (20 minutes per subject, 100 minutes per week, 400 minutes total in July)
  • The RTI Virtual Summer Camp teacher monitored iXL usage weekly and worked directly with the LCs and scholars to ensure time was spent in iXL to help with academic progress.
  • Scholars met weekly in a live session with the RTI teacher to celebrate their success.
  • All scholars who participated in RTI Virtual Summer Camp received a certificate with a Panda Express Coupon.
  • Each week scholars who met the expectations earned raffle tickets.
  • These raffle tickets created multiple spots on a virtual wheel that was used to choose raffle winners at the end of the camp.
    • 5 winners received CCS Swag bags
    • The scholar who showed the most growth and spent the most time in iXL received the grand prize of Beats Headphones

  • Participation data
    • 75 scholars committed to participate in RTI Virtual Summer Camp
      • Of those 75, 49 actively participated.
  • Of the 49 active participants:
    • Scholars worked in iXL for a total of 19257 minutes in reading and math!
    • 44% of RTI participants worked 300+ minutes each week in reading and math.
    • 61% of scholars who worked 300+ minutes showed growth within the iXL program in both reading and math between July 5-July 29.

K-8 Summer Session

  • Purpose:
    • To target learning loss through summer engagement, academic subscriptions and Accelerate Education art courses were available for current 2022-23 scholars in grades tk-7th grade to participate in during summer session.

  • Criteria for Invitation:
    • All scholars in grades TK-7 who were enrolled at Compass Charters during the 2022-23 school year.

  • Program Overview
    • Families chose up to two courses:
      • one (1) Accelerate Education art class and/or one (1) subscription for summer session.
      • One (1) additional subscription
    • A K-8 Summer School teacher monitored subscription classrooms and art courses
    • The K-8 Summer School teacher hosted a weekly live session where scholars shared their learning and participated in a teacher-led activity.
    • All scholars received a Summer Session art kit in order to actively participate in the live sessions and in the Accelerate Education art courses.

    • 155 scholars signed up for K-8 Summer Session
    • On average about 25 participated in live sessions each week
  • Accelerate Education
      • 85% of scholars attending K-8 Summer Session signed up for Accelerate Education Art classes.
      • However, only 14% of scholars actively participated and completed the Accelerate Education art course.
  • Subscriptions:
    • Freckle:
      • 45% of scholars attending K-8 Summer Session signed up to utilize Freckle in July.
      • 80% of those who signed up to work in Freckle utilized this subscriptions in July.
      • Scholars worked a total of 5086 minutes in July.

    • Raz Kids
      • 22% of scholars attending K-8 Summer Session signed up to utilize Raz Kids in July.
      • 41% of scholars who signed up for Raz Kids worked within this subscription in July
      • Scholars worked in Raz Kids a total of 997 minutes in July.
    • Brainpop
      • 47% of scholars attending K-8 Summer Session signed up to utilize Brainpop in July
      • 60% of scholars who signed up for Brainpop worked within this subscription in July
      • Scholars who worked in Brainpop earned over 850 points participating in this game-based learning platform.

High School Summer Session

Purpose:

  • Compass Charters provides High School Summer Session to ensure scholars progress towards graduation eligibility and credit requirements.

Criteria:

  • Scholars who are eligible to participate in High School Summer Sessions can be:
  • Scholars who are credit deficient can take high school summer session credit recovery courses.
  • Scholars who want to earn credits ahead of time during summer session to open up their schedules during the school year
  • Incoming 9th graders who want to start earning high school credits.

High School Summer Session

  • Program Overview:
    • 86 scholars participated in High School Summer Session.
    • Scholars met with their counselor to enroll in up to two summer courses.
    • High School Summer Session courses are credit bearing and the final grade reflects on the scholar’s official transcript.
    • Each scholar was assigned a summer supervising teacher to help monitor their progress.
    • Summer teachers each provided three Q&A sessions throughout the week to support scholars, answer questions, and proctor the major assessments to meet the a-g requirements.
      • Each teacher hosted a Q&A in the morning and afternoon to help meet scholar needs.

High School Summer Session

  • Highlights
    • 86 scholars participated in High School Summer Session.
    • The overall course pass rate with 60% or higher was 87%.
    • 89% of scholars passed at least 1 of their summer courses with a 60% or higher.
    • 84% of scholars passed both of their summer courses with 60% or higher.
    • 86% of scholars taking credit recovery courses passed their courses with 60% or higher.
    • 100% of scholar taking summer courses to earn credits ahead of time passed their courses with 60% or higher
