What is Impact Lab?
Impact Lab is a co-curricular programme designed to support high-potential impact students.
The impact lab aims to cultivate systems leaders who can lead and sustain change throughout their careers, leaders who are deeply reflective, who work collaboratively across systems and who can devolve leadership and decision-making to the communities most impacted by unjust and inequitable practices.
Map The System
Challenges participants to think differently about social and environmental challenges aka ”wicked problems”.�
Move away from an overemphasis on the ‘heropreneur’ and silver bullet ‘solutions’— focus on deep understanding of complex problems through systems mapping as a foundation for driving transformational change.�
Participants evaluated based on the depth of understanding of these problems including an analysis of existing solution efforts, impact gaps and opportunities for positive change.
Map the System 2022 Global Partners
Knowledge equity and lived experience
MTS Encourages students to select a topic or challenge which:
•They feel passionate about and/or
•Have lived or learnt experience of and/or
•Is an area they are already familiar with but want to understand on a deeper level.
Discourage students selecting problems happening far away / where they cannot access first-hand data:
•Avoid outsider bias/ saviour complex. De-colonial practice.
•Inaccess to those directly affected, likely to make assumptions or speak on their behalf.
•Many pressing issues all students can focus on on their doorstep, which may not have initially come to mind.
•Apprenticing with a problem – grant-funded projects completed by previous participants using systems map findings.
