How is leadership

Structured?

Under the direction of the Cub Master, Den & Assistant Den Leaders work directly with the Scouts during meetings, activities, and adventures throughout the year.

​

They guide Scouts through adventure requirements, encourage teamwork, and create a fun environment where every Scout can Do Their Best.

The Pack Committee works behind the scenes to keep the pack organized and running smoothly.

They oversee the pack finances, plan events, spearhead recruitment, execute marketing efforts, and handle many more of the administrative details that make pack adventures possible.

Being helpful is a value of the Scout Law we seek to instill in our Scouts. You can help accomplish this by donating your time and skills to the Pack in ways big and small.

Stepping up and taking on a named position in the pack means taking ownership of specific tasks, events, or responsibilities to help Pack 31 run successfully.

Being a leader means you are a registered and fully trained volunteer who not only takes on a position within the Pack but also steps up to help other volunteers succeed.

• More Flexible Time Commitment
• No need to have a uniform or be registered

Currently we have 5 people running all of Pack 31.

​

When the AOL’s move up in March 2027 there will only be 3! Each taking on more than 1 role.

If we can get 17 volunteers, we could have a leadership structure that looks something like this. With everyone in only 1 role!

What does each

Position Do?

The Cub Master leads the overall Cub Scout programing for the pack while bringing energy and excitement to pack meetings and activities.

Den Leaders lead their Scouts through adventure requirements to make rank while encouraging Scouts to continue to do their best.

• The Master of Ceremonies for all Meetings & Events
• Plans the pack programing for the year with the support of the Pack Committee
• Provides support and guidance to Den Leaders

• Tracks Scouts progress through adventures to meet rank.

Assistant Cub Master

Assistant Den Leader

Assists in all Den Leader responsibilities, and steps in when Den Leader is absent.

Required Role

Required Role

A Den Chief is a Scout in a BSA Troop that helps lead Den meetings. This is a great opportunity for an older Scout to get leadership experience.

The Financial Team manages the pack budget, inventory, and support fundraising efforts to ensure the pack can continue providing exciting adventures and activities.

The Activities Team plans and organizes events, outings, guest speakers, and more. Providing Den Leadership everything they need to successfully execute the fun.

• Oversees the budget & bank account.

• Fundraising Coordinator
• Plans, organizes, and oversee fundraising efforts.

​

• Secretary
• Ensure pack documentation and records are in order.

​

• Inventory Coordinator(s)
• Keep inventory log of all Pack owned gear and procures additional items as needed, from camping equipment to Pinewood Derby Kits.
• Separate position could be made to exclusive keep track of and sell Run With The Pack clothing and gear, including in person and via website.

• Helps in creation of yearly activities calendar and supports the planning of all activities.

• Outdoor Coordinator
• Plans and organizes outdoor and overnight related events such as hiking, camping, the winter overnight, and more.

• Community Service Coordinator
• Plans and organizes community related events from food drives, school assemblies, parades, and more.

​

• Event Coordinator(s)
• Plans and organizes one specific large-scale event, such as the Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, and more.

​

The Membership Team spearheads recruitment efforts and helps den leadership track advancements. Along with welcoming new families and volunteers to the pack.

The Marketing Team crafts the Pack 31 story and communicates it to the community through photos, creative content, email, flyers, social media, and recruitment materials.

• Membership Chair
• Oversees all membership activities as outlined below.

• Recruitment Coordinator
• Plans, organizes, and executes recruitment efforts.

​

• Advancement Coordinator
• Completes the ordering of belts loops, badges, and other items required for advancement ceremonies.

• New Family / Volunteer Coordinator(s)
• Point of contact for all new families, and new volunteers, to ensure they have all the materials and information they need to feel informed, included, and excited to be part of the pack.

• Marketing Chair
• Assists in the creation and distribution of all marketing materials along with guiding the yearly marketing calendar and campaign planning.

​

• Content Coordinator
• Takes and collects pack photos and videos.
• Creates digital and print ready graphics and videos.

​

• Email Coordinator
• Creates and sends timely email communications.

​

• Digital Marketing Coordinator(s)
• Keeps the pack website up to date.
• Creates social media engagement through consistent posting of new and exciting content.

How do I become

a Volunteer?

Next Steps

• Time Commitment
• Attend Pack Meetings & Events as frequently as you already do.
• Leadership Meetings are held max once a month.
• Position specific responsibilities vary greatly from little as a few hours a quarter, to a few hours a week.
• Training via Scouting America is a few hours of online courses at first registration, and yearly refresher for Youth Protection.
• Additional, completely optional, in person training is available via Scouting America for things like outdoor safety training.

• Financial Commitment
• Registration dues to Mayflower Council & Scouting America are typically similar as a youth registration
• Purchasing a uniform is optional for most positions.

• Register Online via Scouting America
• This is required for all Den Leadership positions, along with the Pack Committee Chair, and the Treasurer.
• Basic paperwork is similar process as registering a youth online, with the addition of a background check.

​

• Complete Training
• Take the Scouting America Youth Protection Training.
• Take any Scouting America position specific training.
• Work with other volunteers to learn the Pack 31 ropes.
