Expectations and Responsibilities

3 of 12

Things to note

  • Every child will receive a chromebook and a charger. This will happen within the first ten days of school.
  • Students will be expected to carry their chromebook and charger back and forth from school so that they will have access to their learning from home.
  • IF you have a concern about transporting their chromebook AND they have access to a device at home, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. There will be a limited number of charging stations available for chromebooks to charge in the classroom.

Expectations

  • Students will be expected to take care of their chromebooks and hotspots and will be charged for damage. We do not have Covid money this year to pay for damages.
  • Students are expected to bring a FULLY CHARGED chromebook to school each day. Please help your child remember to charge their chromebook at night and put it in their bookbag in the morning.
  • If there is any damage to the computer, it should be reported to the teacher or media specialist (Christina Brayton) IMMEDIATELY so that it can be fixed.
  • While keys rarely come off a chromebook unless they have been picked off, they can often be repaired without a charge to the student if the key isn’t lost and the keyboard itself isn’t damaged.

Appropriate Use

  • The Mobile Handbook provides detailed information on what is considered to be appropriate use of devices and hotspots.
  • Please remember that these devices are for school use. Please also remember that these accounts are monitored by ABSS and therefore student accounts can be checked if there is a suspicion of inappropriate behavior.
  • Inappropriate use of a device will be considered to be a discipline issue and will be referred to administration, or law enforcement, if necessary.

Care and Handling

  • The Mobile Handbook provides detailed information on what is considered to be appropriate use of devices and hotspots.
  • Liquids, food and other debris can damage the mobile device. DO NOT eat or drink while using the mobile computer. DO NOT keep food/drink or food/drink wrappers in a mobile computer bag/carrying case.
  • Take extreme caution with the screen. The screens are very susceptible to damage from excessive pressure or weight. In particular, NEVER pick up the mobile computer by the screen or by placing your finger directly on the screen with any force.
  • Each mobile device has an identifying label(s) (i.e., barcoded serial number, media center barcode). Under no circumstances are you to modify or destroy these labels.

Care and Handling

  • Storage and carrying of the mobile computer: Cases designed for the specific model of laptop may be obtained and used for added protection against damage. Please be aware that carrying the Chromebook in an overloaded backpack or carrying case will likely damage the mobile computer. Take precaution when placing the backpack/carrying case on a flat surface. Never sit on a mobile computer backpack/carrying case. If devices are stored in personal mobile computer bags or backpacks, the packs should have a padded mobile computer compartment.
