The Sinful Lady

1

The story of Mary Magdalene, who “dared” to wash Jesus’ feet

4 of 17

Backstory

The pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with them. Mary Magdalene, a woman notoriously known for being sinful, heard of this and visited the house that night.

Sinner’s Sorrow

The woman brought two things with her: perfume, and her sorrow.

She washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, and dried them with her hair. She rubbed his feet with perfume.

The pharisee’s were confused why Jesus let the lady touch him, as she was sinful.

When I came into your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. You gave me no kiss of greeting, but she has been kissing my feet since I came in. You did not put oil on my head, but she poured perfume on my feet. I tell you that her many sins are forgiven, so she showed great love. But the person who is forgiven only a little will love only a little.”

-Luke 7:44-48

Love

God loves us ALL. Sinners, non sinners, atheists, even the devil. We are the ones that drift from God, but God never drifts from us.

Woman

Respect

Pharisees

God is disappointed by lukewarm christians. They judge sinners, yet don’t bother changing their sinful habits. They are not willing to give their lives to God.

God respects sinners who turn to God, because they TRULY show sorrow for their actions. They are willing to give their lives to God.

The woman showed more love for Jesus than the Pharisee, who claimed to be christian.

The 3 Steps

Tears

Mary’s tears symbolize her acknowledgement of her sins. Just as her tears left her body, so did her sin.

Hair

Mary’s hair symbolizes her erasing of her sinful past. As she wipes Jesus’ feet with her hair, her sinful past is being wiped clean.

Perfume

Mary’s perfume symbolizes her rebirth as a follower of God. It is a symbol of her devotion to Jesus Christ.

Strong Faith

To avoid becoming a lukewarm christian, it is best to first understand why God loves us the way he does. Once you truly understand why and how he died for our sins, your faith is bound to last.

Listen to worship songs, and be aware of who you are listening to

Read the bible to understand why God does not condone sin, and whenever you feel tempted remember than God is watching.

Don’t listen to artists that worship the devil.

Don’t hang around people who mock God, they can influence your beliefs.

Find people who have the same love for God like you. Maybe even start a club for christians!

Don’t keep sinning just because “God will forgive you anyways”.

Prayer

4

A short prayer, to prevent lukewarmness as a Christian.

16 of 17

My lukewarmness distresses me and dishonors You. I have become spiritually complacent. Warm my heart by showing me again the depth of Your love that sent Jesus to live and die for me. Grant me the gift of repentance and pour Your love into my heart by Your Holy Spirit. Grant me a thirst to know You better as well as a heart full of spiritual fervor for You. Enflame my heart with the sure and certain hope of my future — sitting with You on Your throne in heaven. Prepare me for all that lies ahead in my earthly pilgrimage… the smiles of prosperity as well as the frowns of adversity, the days of spiritual conquest and victory as well as the days of defeat, the dark nights of the soul as well as the bright days of spiritual blessing.
