DIRBE

2

  • Part of the COBE satellite mission
  • Data has been used to probe the properties of the Galaxy and the interplanetary material in the Solar System
  • Analysis is being led by Gustav Eriksted and Daniel Herman

WMAP - Duncan

  • Satellite mission pre-Planck
  • We have the technical ability to make better maps than in the original analysis
  • Our goal is to make maps of the sky better than either Planck or WMAP could make with their data alone

PASIPHAE - Eirik

  • Experiment to probe the 3D foregrounds
  • Using polarized distributions of stars to map out the galactic magnetic field
  • Cutting-edge!

QUIET - Maksym

  • Q/U Imaging ExperimenT (2008-2010);
  • Purpose: detection of B-modes;
  • Detectors: Arrays of Coherent amplifiers:
    • @ 43GHz (Q-band), 19 mods x 4 dets
    • @ 95GHz (W-band), 91 mods x 4 dets
    • Field of view - 3.75 degrees
    • Average beam size: 27′ for Q and 12′ for W;

Very good test for ground-based experiments:

  • Relatively Small Data set: ~286 Gb (Q), ~2.5 Tb (W);
  • Has high S/N and relatively low systematics;
  • Deep polarization measurements of selected fields at 43&95GHz ⇒ polarized synchrotron SED constraints;
  • etc.

Spider

  • A CMB telescope suspended under a giant balloon
  • Finished one flight, is preparing for a second one
  • Current work is being led by Harald (recovering from his vaccine right now)
  • TODO: Run joint analysis with other experiments like planck

CHIPASS - Duncan

  • Map of the Southern Hemisphere at 1.4 GHz
  • Highest resolution (14.4 arcmin) low frequency telescope
  • There are clear artifacts in the map; but we can fix it!
  • Roughly 1 TB of data to analyze sitting on disk right now; help me analyze it, and make a better map than this!

PICO

  • CMB fullsky satellite under consideration by NASA
  • Main goal to detect inflationary gravitational waves
  • Will have the sensitivity of between 3300 and 6400 Planck missions
    • 21 Frequencies between 20 and 800 GHz
    • 13.000 detectors
    • High resolution 38 and 1 arcmin
  • Currently a mission study
