1] Introduction:

  • What is smart mirror?

  • Smart mirror is a wall mounted mirror which displays weather, time, news and other areas of interests.

  • Our project aims at exploring other fields where this technology can be used.

  • It aims at including this technology in a mirror, because in general people spend a considerable amount of time in front of a mirror.

  • Smart mirror can also be useful for getting quick view of your Google feeds.

  • The combination of IoT and Android is employed in this system.

2] Objectives:

  • The objective where in is to develop a mirror that does smart activities like showing weather, time , date and news etc.

  • Keeping the user away from time consuming activities.

  • All of the above-mentioned tasks are to be performed with the help of the Raspberry pi 3b+.

  • We can see our view as we can see it in a natural mirror while looking and grooming with the help of one way mirror with high concentration of aluminum content.

3] Problem Statement:

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY | TYCM-A

Page No. 5

The major problem of any existing mirror is displaying just the object in front of it or just the human face without having to information of with them. This project is developed with the intention that people spend quality time in front of the mirror.

4] Literature Review:

  • While implementing a smart mirror, the first question which arrives is “What is the need of a Smart Mirror?”

  • The concept of smart mirror revolves around the development of Internet of Things (IoT). IoT is a network of physical devices, having electronic or software functions connected together to exchange data.

  • It provides a way of communication between people and things and between the objects itself.

  • The machine required for computing is a raspberry pi which does not require large space.

5] Proposed system and Block diagram:

  • The proposed system is to design an interactive futuristic smart mirror with IoT using Raspberry Pi.

  • In the proposed system, the ability of the system provide details of the same, incorporates the theory of feeds of Google.

  • Our system uses a raspberry pi based processor board along with display and IOT based circuitry.

  • The frame cavity is now fitted with precisely positioned mounts for the display housing to be fitted in the mirror. This is necessary to achieve the desired effect.

  • Is a concept where an object having the ability to transfer data over a network without the need for human interaction to human or human to computer.

  • Internet is acquired the feed news and weather and that data accessed the Raspberry Pi  and give instruction to the monitor for display data. This data can be managed by the app over the screen.

  • For displaying time raspberry pi used their time in build.

7] Result and Output:

  • The output of the Smart Mirror has a black output screen which displays weather, news and time. The top right corner of the screen displays time which is present in the Raspberry Pi. It makes use the calendar for displaying the day and date along with time.

  • The top left corner of the screen displays weather conditions.

  • Weather condition update changes every hour and is displayed on the screen if there is a change in temperature else the temperature remains unchanged.

  • The weather icon on the screen is displayed with the help of the various png images which is saved in a folder in Raspberry Pi.

  • The weather output makes use of a module called ‘Tkinter’. Tkinter provides window for output and we can change window size according to output.

9] Functional Overview:

  • On start after giving power supply to mirror the raspberry loads the OS and directly runs the UI of the mirror, it may take while to load the weather and other internet based widgets to display the information completely depending on the speed of the home Wi-Fi network.
  • Upon uploading the code to the device from Qt Creator(Community), the widgets of time, date, real-time weather and news updates were visible through the front of the glass while reflecting the user’s image on the mirror.
  • The smart-mirror was originally inspired by Home Mirror.

11] Implementation:

  • STEP 1:

Turn on the supply of both raspberry and LED Monitor.

  • STEP 2:

Turn any Hotspot and connect it with raspberry Pi.

  • STEP 3:

Now to Monitor the raspberry pi connect your device to raspberry through VNC Viewer it requires an IP address so we have to enter the correct IP address of raspberry pi so it will be get connected.

  • STEP 4:

After the proper connection, open terminal and connect through terminal over the coding logic programming.

  • STEP 5:

The smart mirror is displayed on the mirror through the LED Monitor. It displays the Date, news, Weather in your calendar.
