What is Sora?

Sora is an e-reader app and digital library for K-12 students.

install from Google Play or download the app on a personal device

(sign in with your Google account).

  • Read ebooks and listen to audiobooks (Nearly 500 titles in our NLSchools library).
  • Adjust reading or listening settings.
  • Download titles to read or listen offline.
  • Add and export bookmarks, highlights, and notes.
  • Add the NL Public Library to access up to 25,000 more books.

How do I get students started with Sora?

Direct them to open the app.

There are three ways to access:

  • Google ‘waffle’ app launcher.

  • Install the Sora app on a NLSchools Chromebook from Google Play.

  • Install the Sora app on a personal device.

  1. Direct them to download / open�the app (on their personal device) �or go to soraapp.com.
  2. Search for your school (“Find my school”) and enter “NLSchools”

    • You will also need to allow access to your Drive.

How to Access

the NL Public Library Using Sora

Step 1: Set Up Your NL Public Library Account

  • Follow the instructions to get your NL Public Library Card.

  • Obtain your 14 digit ID and PIN (needed to borrow books).

Students under the age of 13

These students must have parental consent to obtain a NL Library Card. Parents / guardians must complete the application on their child’s behalf.

Step 2: Add the NL Public Library to Sora

  • Open the Sora app on your device.

  • Open the user menu (the three lines in the upper right corner).

  • Select ‘Add Library’ and enter Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries.

Step 3: Switch Between Library Collections

  • From the Explore screen in Sora, users can select the Library collection they wish to search

  • Or switch between collections from the user menu (the three lines in the upper right corner).

Review Samples and Borrow to Read

Happy Reading / Listening!

  • Students can borrow up to 3 titles at a time.

  • After 14 days, books need to be renewed or returned.

  • Students can place holds on titles that may not be available at the time.

  • Remember a NL Library card is needed when borrowing books.
