UPDATING PUPIL INFORMATION

  • Please ensure the office has up to date information;
  • It’s especially important to update us of any changes to telephone numbers.
  • You can use our email and Text messaging service to stay up to date.

THE SCHOOL DAY

  • Your child’s school day starts at 8.45am (in the school playground) and finishes at 3.00pm.
  • On Friday school finishes at 1.45pm.

  • Breakfast club starts at 8.15am – please book this via the school app.

HEALTHY EATING

  • The Healthy Eating policy can be found on the school website
  • Milk can be ordered monthly via the school app
  • Children are allowed water bottles in school – these must only have water in them. They can be refilled during the school day.
  • Water will be provided for those who do not bring a water bottle.
  • Toast (in the morning) and fruit (at breaktime) will also be provided for children.

PARENTAL SUPPORT

  • We value the support and commitment of parents.
  • The ‘Learning Triangle’ (teachers – school – parents) shows how the child is at the centre.
  • We also have a parent support office (Mrs Morelli) – she is there to help on a daily basis.

NUMERACY

  • Throughout the year we will be following the Maths Mastery programme.
  • You can see the overview for the year by clicking on the link attached.
  • We will also be focusing on times tables this year – practicing these with your child would be a great help.

LITERACY

  • Reading: Please read as much as possible with your child
  • We will read a range of non-fiction and fictions texts each week. As well as reading comprehension activities, and weekly phonic sound focus.
  • Writing: Your child will have exposure to a range of writing genres. We are focusing on becoming more independent this year!
  • Pupils will have the opportunity to celebrate their work and take part in discussions with their peers.

WORLD AROUND US

THE ARTS

Pupils will:

  • Develop their skills through the topics in World Around Us
  • Develop their use of colour
  • Work with different tools
  • Work with percussion instruments to develop an awareness of beat and rhythm
  • Take part in ‘music morning’ sessions with the school of music
  • Develop acting skills through Christmas shows and assemblies.

ICT

Pupils will:

  • Print and save their work
  • Working with text, images and sounf
  • Simple programming using Beebot
  • Showcasing and talking about their work
  • Weekly use of the computer suite and chromebooks to develop skills
  • Using the internet and talking about internet safety.

Pupils will focus on developing fundamental skills:

  • Balance
  • Motor skills
  • Agilty
  • Health and Safety
  • Teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Our PE day is a Thursday – pupils can wear PE uniform to school.

PE

RELIGION

This year pupils are preparing for their First Holy Communion (date to be confirmed). We ask that you are:

  • Supportive by helping your child to learn new prayers, hymns and how to bless themselves correctly.

Pupils will have the opportunity to:

  • Promote self esteem
  • Talk about how to take care of themselves and others
  • Explore their role in the community
  • Take part in Circle Time
  • Recognise achievements (like Star Pupil) in school assemblies.

PSHE

HOMEWORK

  • In Primary 4 the homework will be sent home every week. It is given out on a Monday and returned on a Thursday.
  • It will include:
    • Literacy
    • Numeracy
    • World Around Us
    • Spelling
    • Reading
  • It is important to support your child through their homework and please read with your child everyday.

  • Assembly: we will update you with assembly dates.

  • First Holy Communion: Date to be confirmed – we will let you know as soon as possible.
