Pre-Game Mechanics

PREPARATION WITH COACHES: • All officials should meet with both coaches and the Referee will:

• Ask if either coach has any questions

• Get the number of the “in-home,” who must be a starting attack and listed first in the scorebook.

NOTE: ONLY Youth have a defensive in-home, not JV or Varsity. – Goalie serves penalty time.

• Get the numbers of the team captains.

• Ask the coach “Are all your players legally and properly equipped by rule?”

• Introduce the referee crew and hand out the Coaches Certification Cards

Additional Face Off Mechanics

1. The Wing (W) official will hold his arm vertically until the field is ready and then drop it to a 90 degree angle pointing at the goal nearest him.

5. After whistle sounds to start the faceoff, the wing areas are released but they must avoid body checking the faceoff players while down in a defenseless position for control of the ball.

4. Only one step allowed after a successful clamping of the ball

• Not allowed to look up searching for a teammate unless done in a single 1 step motion pass

3. Face Off players must play the ball first (first move cannot be to body check their opponent)

2. It is legal to lean over the center line but not to lean over the top to stop area.
