    • You will encounter four different characters from the wetland.

    • When you find the character, you are looking for: Look around for a ball with a hidden clue inside.

INTO THE WETLANDS ADVENTURE…

23

24 of 38

This is Fatima Woodpecker here with WTER TV – bringing you all the News of the Wetlands!

Today, our top story focuses on humans in the wetlands.  Many residents are concerned that humans are unaware of how they affect our home.

Here to talk with me about this is local wetland resident, Harvey Harlequin Beetle. Harvey what can you tell us?

25 of 38

Wow Barry – that is shocking! One would think…

Hold on everyone!  We are getting some breaking news!  We are going to go live to another part of the wetland for more news!

Harvey Harlequin Beetle here! I was hanging out in the wetlands enjoying the view from my Bladderpod plant when I saw four humans running though the wetlands.

They were running off the trails and stepping on plants.  I yelled “STOP!” but they didn’t seem to realize I was there.

Fatima, it was like they didn’t know they could be damaging plants and animals’ habitats!

26 of 38

WTER TV reporter Antonia Ant here – a little bug with BIG news!

I am here with Larry Lemonade Berry a local wetland resident.

Larry, can you tell us what you saw?

Listen Antonia, people may think that I’m

just a plant and I don’t know anything, but let me tell you, I am extremely upset by what I just saw!

A bunch of humans just left trash all over the wetlands! What a shame! I don’t think they realize that when it rains, the trash will get washed into the ocean. And who wants to look at trash all day?  Not me! I don’t want trash all over my home!

Don’t people care??

I don’t understand it, Antonia.

27 of 38

Wow Larry Lemonade Berry! That sounds terrible! I wonder if humans just don’t understand how important wetlands are? If they understood maybe, they would be more considerate! Someone really needs to tell them! Back to you Fatima.

Well folks, this is a breaking story we will continue to follow, but right now we need some help from Science Leaders!

We need to show a really amazing group of science leaders how important the wetlands are so they can tell others!

Do you know any kind and generous science leaders who might want to go on an adventure to learn about why wetlands are important so they can tell others?

If you are a science leader who wants to learn more we will send you on a journey to meet some of the local wetland residents who can teach you why the wetlands are important.  I hope you choose to go because Harvey, Fatima, Larry and Antonio are counting on you!

CIRCLE TOSS

    • I will read the question out loud and toss the ball to someone.

    • If you catch it, you will share your answer with the group.

    • When you’re done, toss the ball to someone new.

Question: Can anyone think of a time when we used math today?

2. As a science leader, what observations did you make in the canyon? What did you hear, see, touch?
