Air Permits
PTI staff process approximately 300 – 400 applications per year
ROPs are for major (large) sources of air pollutants
Processed through District inspectors and the ROP Central Unit
Initial and renewal applications – quantities vary by year
Permits to Install (PTI) and Title V/Renewable Operating Permits (ROPs)
Air Toxics
Create and update Michigan’s health-based air toxic screening levels to be used in the permitting process
Assist in review of requested permit emissions of air toxics
Assist with public engagement and risk communication through permitting process and other partnerships
Work with State Health Department staff on various projects
Compliance: Inspections, etc.
Conducts hundreds of inspections every year and are responsible for determining compliance with thousands of facilities across the state
Review and draft ROPs
Review and support permitting work
Respond to complaints and write violation notices
Enforcement
Work on enforcement cases
Negotiate penalties, terms and supplemental environmental projects (SEPs)
Work with the Attorney General’s Office, EPA and Department of Justice on various cases
