What is Jumprope?
Jumprope is a standards based grading portal that you can login to using the “login with Google button” and using a student’s nycstudents.net email address.
Teachers use rubrics to determine mastery in a standard and input grades for those standards in Jumprope.
You can track growth in the standards across the unit/year rather than an overall single grade for one assessment.
Jumprope allows you to monitor grades (growth in mastery of standards), missing assignments, and message teachers regarding student grades.
How are grades calculated?
Grade Calculation Examples
Why does my overall JumpRope grade seem to start off low? Why does it seem to change a lot?
It is to be expected that at the beginning of the year or a new unit of study, you may not have the best grades in JumpRope. If you already know the cause of the Civil War or how to multiply fractions, why would we teach you that?
As time progresses, you should improve your scores. In other words, be patient, particularly if there are only a couple of assessments related to a particular standard. You always have a chance to revise or do better on the next assessment!

What is a STAR grade that needs further action?
2.4 or Below Average STAR Grade from many STAR grades will lead to an additional meeting with advisors, Restorative Coaches, and/or Administrators. Let’s work together to ensure that classroom respect supports learning for all
STAR: Sit Up, Track the Speaker, Actively Engage, RESPECT All
Without STAR it’s hard to fully have Scholarship, Creativity, and Community at HPCMS. 3 or above? Doing Great! 2.4 or Below? Let’s Work on This!
What is
Summer School?
In June, students that are still PID may be assigned to attend summer school for July and some of August to work on their knowledge and skills in order to be ready for the next grade.
What does each grade need to know?
Grade 6 and 7: Check your grades. Take advantage of support sessions and talk to your advisor about how to do better. Math and ELA are subjects that can lead to PID. Your grades at the end of the year may be used for High School Admissions.
Grade 8: Your grades earn you graduation participation. Students that are PID in any core subject (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies) will not walk at graduation. Use support sessions and your advisor to get support.
