Research Question

  • How can we use drones to monitor lawn care?
  • Drones can be programed to image properties and help with lawn care maintenance.

Future Research

  • Research needs to include projects like this and their limitations.

  • Imaging technology could improve to identify water leaks, dry zones, etc.

  • The engineering challenges that this project could face are interferences with trees, cloud cover, and other obstacles.

  • Mathematically the drone needs to be able to adjust for altitude, temperature, etc.

Societal Impact

  • Help promote water conservation?

  • It will take 3-5 years to implement.

  • Recreation areas, HOA’s, and BLM will benefit from this technology.

  • Drones could be used for lawn management in areas such as golf courses, homeowners associations, and even the BLM.

  • Lawn maintenance workers, sports specialists, and government workers will benefit from the training and data analysis of this program.

Rationale

  • Golf Courses often have pipe leaks or dead spots of lawn that are not noticed soon enough. Courses could benefit from daily imaging and maintenance checks.
  • On the golf course I was walking through marsh land and desert land.
  • Water consumption is getting more and more regulated. This project will help maintain proper water usage in recreation.
