Activity

“I can write my first and last name”

Tracing: It’s always a good idea to start with tracing the letters in your name as well as saying them aloud as you’re tracing them. Be sure to model this for your child!

Already writing your name? Try calling out a letter sound to your student and having them write the corresponding letter that goes with it! Here’s a favorite song of ours to help:

Who Let the Letters Out?

Here’s a super fun activity to try at home!

Activity

“I can put syllables together to make words”

Syllable clap: Choose a word and model for your student how to clap one time per each part (or syllable) of the word. Try choosing words with differing numbers of syllables (fork, table, banana).

Syllable chin: Have your child put his/her hand under their chin and say the word slowly so they can feel when their chin goes down. When your chin goes down, you’re saying a new part (syllable) to the word!
