A Note from the Teacher

Mrs. Lloyd’s

Class News

Wow, November has flown by! I know everyone is excited for the holiday season. It’s always wonderful to unwind and enjoy the joy of this time of year after working so hard over the past few months. There’s plenty of fun ahead as we prepare for the holidays, and I’m really looking forward to the coming weeks with the students!

As shared earlier, our school will be running two collection drives this December: the Drive for Hunger Campaign for the Leduc and Area Food Bank (non-perishable food items) and the Christmas Elves Drive organized by our Junior High Leadership students (hygiene products, socks, mittens, winter hats, books, or toys).

As an added incentive, the elementary class and the junior high class that bring in the most total items across both drives will each receive an ICE CREAM CAKE.

Participation in these events is completely optional.

Language Arts

Throughout the month of December, we will continue to meet the following objectives:

  • I can print with spaces between my words.
  • I can print a sentence with capital letters and periods.
  • I can use letter sounds to help read words.
  • I can identify the main character in a story.
  • I can put a story in order using events in the story.

We will be reading some fun holiday stories and doing writing

activities related to these. In particular, we will look at different

versions of The Gingerbread Man.

Our final “show me what you know” spelling test for 2025 will

be on December 12th. Since the last week of school before the

holidays is always very busy, we’ll take a break and resume in the

new year. We will also have home reading duotangs returned on

December 16th and pause home reading until January.

Class News

We will begin to focus on Matter. When this unit is completed, students will be able to:

    • analyze properties of objects and investigate how they can be changed.
    • understand that objects have measurable properties.
    • understand that physical changes to objects do not change what the objects are made of.

Social Studies

Throughout December, we will be exploring holiday traditions from around the world.

We will wrap up learning about numbers to 20 and begin to focus on patterns. At the end of this unit, your child should be able to say:

    • I can identify the pattern core, up to four elements, in a cycle.
    • I can extend a sequence of elements in various ways to create repeating patterns.
    • I can create different representations of the same repeating pattern or cycle, limited to a pattern core of up to four elements.
    • I can identify a missing element in a repeating pattern or cycle.
