Title:

Low Fat,

Low Taste?

2 of 11

Purpose:

The purpose of my experiment is to see if there is a true taste difference between regular food items and low fat food items.

Hypothesis:

If and adult human or child is given the same food one being regular and the other being low fat, then he or she should be able to pick the low fat one based on the taste. As you get older, your taste buds do not get replaced. So some foods taste stronger for kids for that reason. An adult human has about 10,000 taste buds, which some are replaced every two weeks.

Procedures

  • Put all food items into individual bowls for people to taste side by side.
  • Blindfold the test subject.
  • Have test subject taste each item side by side.
  • After each food item is tasted, the test subject will tell us which one they think is low fat and which one is regular.
  • After all test subjects have participated, I will tabulate the results.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, our data shows that our taste buds are unable to tell the difference between low fat and regular food items of the same type.

We also concluded in this case there was not a difference in results between adults and children.

Real world connection:

When choosing between a low-fat item and a regular item of the same type at the grocery store, one should not take into account a taste difference. As we have been able to show that when blindfolded, you can not tell the difference.
