How Does Light Travel?

Light waves are also called transverse waves.

Light travels in straight lines until it makes contact with a substance.

White Light

White light contains 7 different colors that are broken down when it travels through a medium.

How do we see black and white colors?

Objects that absorb all colors will look black.

Objects that reflect all colors will look white.

What are the ways that light can be changed?

  • Absorption
  • Reflection
  • Refraction
  • Scattering

11 of 21

Absorption

Occurs when electromagnetic radiation (waves) are captured and stored inside objects.

Reflection

When light rays make contact with an object and are re-emitted (reflected) as light.

Refraction

When light that travels through a medium bends changing its direction.
