How to Build and Utilize Your Personal Learning Plan

  1. Purpose: The purpose of a personal learning plan is to identify your strengths, weaknesses, skills, aspirations, interests, goals, learning styles, needs, and more, and use this understanding about yourself to guide learning experiences over the course of your senior year.
  2. Learn About Yourself: Go through the slides in order. The first 10 slides were designed to help your instructor learn about you and to help YOU recognize and articulate what you need to ensure a successful year. You and your instructor will take these things into consideration when developing your personal learning plan together.
  3. Goals: Slides 14-17 are designated for goal setting. You will write personal and academic goals in relation to your senior year, postsecondary education, careers, skills.
  4. Personal Learning Plan: Slide 18 is your personal learning plan, an editable slide where you can add or remove learning criteria, expectations, or plans that reflect YOUR learning goals for the year. You will add a list of activities, learning experiences, tasks, etc. to meet your written goals, review them periodically, and make adjustments as needed.
  5. Learning Outcomes: The last three slides summarize session outcomes. The last slide is reserved for your instructor to summarize your accomplishments, milestones, challenges, recommendations for future projects, etc.
