Updates: Islandora Board

What the IF will focus on Moving Forward

  • Establishing relationships with peer Open Source projects, such as the Drupal Community.
  • Providing an easily adoptable instance of Islandora with auxiliary services off by default
  • Supporting and maintaining the core feature set and adoption path
  • Making key architectural decisions that shape the common core of Islandora
  • Coordinating community efforts around documentation and collaboration
  • Providing the guidance and governance required to ensure aligned efforts
  • Facilitating “user groups” within the Islandora Community
  • Finding a sustainable way to bring awareness to other instances and deployments in the ecosystem so that the community can understand the complexity of the IFr, and the various “flavors” and extensions that arise as a result of a robust open source ecosystem.
  • Defining the roles that the various actors in the ecosystem perform (e.g. the IF, Vendors, developers, adopters, etc.) to ensure clarity.

Updates: Islandora Board

Next Steps

  • Collapse the Islandora Coordinating Committee and Leadership Group into a reconstituted Leadership Group, for an initial meeting by mid/late November

  • Post and hire a Community Manager, reporting to the Board. It is our goal to have the new Leadership Group in place and able to provide meaningful feedback in the final stages of the hiring process.

  • Finalize and formally adopt the Strategic Plan, moving forward with implementation via the new Leadership Group and Community Manager
