Welcome to GSuite!

This asynchronous, self-paced course is designed to familiarize you with all of the Google platforms. Google platforms provide means through which we can collaborate and create. They are accessible from anywhere there is internet connection.

What does asynchronous, self paced mean in terms of this course?

This means that students in this class are able to choose the path

by which they complete the Google platforms. On any given day

every student could be working on a different Google platform.

This allows students to work at their own pace, provided they are on

track to meet the goals of the course (listed below), and on the platforms

that interest them the most. For each platform there is the option of

earning an extra 40 points by identifying a community (Spartan, local,

state, national, international) need and then addressing that need with

that platform. For example, is there a fundraiser going on that needs a flyer? They could use one of the platforms to complete that flyer. The students, with my assistance, will be creating the rubrics for each of the community needs projects.

Goals of the course:

Students will show mastery of the following platforms:

  1. Drive f. Hangouts k. YouTube p. Draw
  2. Docs g. My Maps l. GMail q. Tour Builder
  3. Slides h. Earth m. Scholar
  4. Forms i. Alerts n. Search
  5. Sheets j. Blogger o. Sites

Students will complete weekly performance assessments.

Students will complete platform reflections for each project submission.

Students will choose the method by which they submit their platform completions.

Grades

Platform Submissions

Each platform has a point value attached to it based on the number of skills required for that platform. They range anywhere from 25 - 110+. Platform submissions will be graded with Schoology rubrics (available from day 1) and those grades will be kept in Schoology until the 5 week mark. At each 5 week mark, they will get a grade out of a specified number of points. For example, if the 5 week requires 400 points, they will have to submit at least 400 points worth of platform work. Platform submissions and community projects are counted as achievement grades. If you have questions about accessing grades in Schoology, please contact me.

Weekly Performance Assessments

Completion of each of these will be worth 10 points and they are mandatory. These are counted as process grades.

Platform Reflection

Submission of these coincide with platform submissions. They are worth 10 points and count as a process grade.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Awareness Campaign

Using a GSuite platform of their choice, students will create a global awareness campaign to promote the sustainable development goal of their choice.

Showcase

We will hold a showcase of skills bi-weekly so that we can not only learn from each other, but display hidden gems in each of the platforms.

App Smackdown

This is worth 100 points. The rubric is in Schoology and it counts as an achievement grade.
