Now we can look at an example of how this format will play out with the subject tag “Alliance opportunities”. On a daily basis, you might receive updates from Alliance listservs! Not sure what those are? The alliance has a few different email lists you can ask to join by going through the link in this slide. Within just Resource Sharing & Fulfillment there are three groups you can be a part of! Is the courier a big part of your job, and sometimes you have a question but you don’t know who to ask? Check out the courier listserv! Does your library use Rapido, and you want to learn more about how other libraries execute a certain workflow? What a coincidence, there is a rapido group listserv! Are you more interested in general resource sharing and fulfillment topics and trouble-shooting? You won’t believe it, but there is a whole RSF discussion group!

Other listservs might tell you about newly opened job opportunities within the alliance, community events and discussions, and special speaker sessions that may be relevant to your professional development. Do be advised, participation in Alliance listservs may cause a beautiful sense of community, with a larger-than-average risk of problem-solving satisfaction.

On a monthly basis you’ll see alliance opportunities such as our monthly Resource Sharing and Fulfillment community calls (open to everyone!). Community calls typically include announcements, Alma release notes, and set discussion topics that have included advocacy, circulation desk space planning, community patron policies, and multi-part shipping. If you are a part of the RSF discussion listserv, you will receive incredibly timely reminders that include the upcoming community call’s agenda in case you like to plan ahead.

Another opportunity that takes place monthly is standing group meetings. If you are in a standing or project group, you’ll likely get together about once a month at a mutually agreeable time and work on your various projects and charges.

On a monthly basis, there may also be speaker series presentations for you to attend, which you will see on the calendar and events page. On this slide you’ll see screenshots from a variety of presentations that have been hosted during a variety of Alliance events in the past.

Of course, a welcome packet has to have a frequently asked questions section! We asked the RSF standing groups for frequently asked questions they have or have received, and split those into three sections:

Getting involved with the alliance, including questions such as: How do I get added to an Alliance email list?

Circulation and fulfillment, including questions such as: How do I create an account for a Summit Visiting Patron?

Resource sharing, including questions such as: When should I use a brown bag vs a gray bag?

The first two sections are quite small at this point, while we do have quite a few resource sharing-related questions. And there could be more sections in the future! This is meant to be a LIVING DOCUMENT, and no questions are too small or too silly for this list - and we’re all still waiting to hear what Lori’s favorite cookies are.

Dropsites

Library locations where the courier delivers Summit, Rapido and ILL items. Some of these locations deliver bags to additional participating libraries. For example, WCCLS is a dropsite that delivers to fourteen additional libraries. (See also Courier, Expak, and Participating Libraries)
