Assessment Framework Overview

  • Assessment data is used to drive decision making to support student success
  • Long-cycle assessments occur quarterly to support schools and teachers in determining student levels and appropriate tiers of support
  • WPSD currently administers screeners and diagnostic assessments to students in mathematics, literacy, and science*

Winter ELA Diagnostics (Secondary)

Lexia RAPID Reading Assessment (Middle School)

  • 7th grade students average scale increased from the Fall to Winter assessments in Word Recognition
  • Students’ average scale scores were flat or decreased in the other 7 out of the 8 probes.

Classroom Diagnostic Tools - Literature (High School)

  • Literature (PWHS) saw an average scale score decrease from 874 to 863 from Fall to Winter.
  • This result is consistent with there being less students who scored advanced or proficient in each of the 5 diagnostic categories compared to the Fall window

  • 20% of students in 7th and 8th grade either met or were exceeding the grade level benchmark
  • That represents a 13 point increase in comparison to the Fall MSDA.

Classroom Diagnostic Tools - Algebra I (High School)

  • Algebra 1 (PWHS) saw an average scale score decrease from 881 to 864 from Fall to Winter.
  • However, more students were scored advanced or proficient in overall score and 3 out of the 4 diagnostic categories compared to the Fall window

Data-Driven Next Steps

  • District Needs Assessment: The Office of Academic Services analyzes the district data to identify trends and areas of improvement
  • Winter Data Summit: Instructional leaders from across the district meet to review district and school data to collaborate on strategic next steps (02/10/22)
  • Data Action Plans: Instructional leaders and teachers review their data and build action plans to support specific content areas and groups of students

Graduation Requirements ~ Class of 2023

Act 158 of 2018,(Act 158), was signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf on October 24, 2018, it provides alternatives to Pennsylvania’s statewide requirement of attaining proficiency on the three end-of-course Keystone Exams - Algebra I, Literature, and Biology for a student to achieve statewide graduation requirements.

Class of 2023

  • Effective with the graduating class of 2023, students have the option to demonstrate postsecondary preparedness through one of four additional pathways that more fully illustrate college, career, and community readiness.

  • Keystone Exams will continue as the statewide assessment Pennsylvania uses to comply with accountability requirements set forth in the Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

  • Although students will no longer be required to achieve proficiency on the Keystone Exams in order to meet statewide graduation requirements, students must take the Keystone Exams for purposes of Federal accountability. Failure to do so will affect a Local Education Agency (LEA) and school’s participation rate.
