What is Financial Aid

Financial aid is any grant or scholarship, loan, or paid employment offered to help a student meet their college expenses.​

What makes up college expenses?

Indirect expenses are student specific and will not be directly charged to students’ accounts.

Direct expenses are directly charged to students’ accounts. If you do not pay these expenses, you cannot attend classes.

What are the types of financial aid available?

Need-Based aid is based off your and your family’s finances.

Merit-Based aid is based off of your accomplishments, i.e., GPA, leadership roles, volunteering, etc.

How do I qualify for financial aid?

In order to qualify for financial aid, you must first APPLY for it.

AND - You must apply for financial aid EVERY year.  Do not miss out on aid by not reapplying for it!

  • ONLY for students who are U.S. Citizens or eligible non-citizens (permanent residents, refugee or asylum among others)

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid

  • Students can qualify for grants, scholarships, work-study to help pay for college

  • Based on student and parents' income information and must be filed every year wanting to receive financial aid

  • Fall of senior year is the first time can apply

FAFSA

CASFA

  • ONLY for students who are undocumented or have DACA status.

  • Colorado Application for State Financial Aid

  • Specific to Colorado and only for Colorado colleges and universities

  • Students can qualify for STATE grants and scholarships specific from colleges and universities since they do not qualify for federal financial aid.

  • Based on student and parents’ income information and must be filed every year wanting to receive financial aid

  • Fall of senior year is the first time can apply

Creating your FSA ID or CASFA Login

  1. A login (username and password) is required for either application�2. FAFSA = FSA ID and CASFA = CASFA login�3. Use the directions provided by your advisor to create your FSA ID/CASFA login�4. You will need:
  • Full name
  • Social Security Number (SSN) if creating FSA ID
  • Personal email (do not use your school one)

5. Once you’ve created your FSA ID/CASFA Login, take a picture of it with your phone and write it down in your notes app. You will need it during senior year to start your application.
