Why is it important to understand advisory at JLMS?

All middle and high schools in SFUSD have advisory class. Advisory is a great place to get information and answer questions that you have about what is happening in our school. You will have more fun at JLMS if you get involved with activities here.

You will go to your advisory classroom every morning.

We will spend a total of 137 minutes in advisory every week.

Advisory activities:

Your advisors are here to help you be successful in school.

Advisory will take your attendance.
Advisory will check your Yondrs in the morning
Advisory teachers will check your grades and assignments and help you stay focused and on track.
Your advisory teachers will be the ones who help you prepare for our Student-Led Conferences that take place twice a year.

Advisory activities:

In advisory there are a lot of things we do as a school.

On Thursdays, we will have READING ZONE during advisory. More information on Reading Zone will be in tomorrow’s advisory class.

On Fridays, your advisory will join a school-wide Google Meet for our Morning Announcements.

You’ll find out about clubs, events, field trips, and other activities during announcements.

We will also do ADVISORY COMPETITIONS throughout the year.

Things to Remember

Stay in YOUR advisory.

Advisory attendance counts.

If you need to go somewhere else, you should already have a pass.

Since advisory is a class here at JLMS, students need to stay with their assigned teacher. Otherwise, if an adult is looking for you, we won’t be able to find you.

If you are late for advisory or miss it entirely, it will go into your total attendance percentage for school. Attendance is sent to your families and goes on report cards.

You should not ask your advisory teacher to get permission for you to go somewhere else during advisory. If you have already made arrangements to go somewhere, they should give you a pass.

Advisors: Have students go through the Orientation checklist and figure out which of the JLMS policies they still need to become familiar with.

Actividades de advisory:

En advisory hay muchas cosas que hacemos como escuela.

Los jueves tendremos la Zona de Lectura (READING ZONE) durante la clase de advisory. Mañana, en la sesión de orientación, les daremos más información sobre la Zona de Lectura.

Los viernes, tu maestro se unirá a una reunión de Google Meet de toda la escuela para nuestros anuncios matutinos.

Te enterarás de clubes, eventos, excursiones y otras actividades durante los anuncios.

También realizaremos CONCURSOS DE ADVISORY a lo largo del año.

Cosas para recordar

Permanezca en SU clase.

La asistencia a las clases de advisory cuenta.

Si necesitas ir a otro lugar, ya deberías tener un pase.

Dado que la clase de advisory es una clase aquí en JLMS, los estudiantes deben permanecer con su maestro asignado. De lo contrario, si un adulto los busca, no podremos encontrarlos.

Si llegas tarde a la clase de advisory o no asistes, se contabilizará en tu porcentaje de asistencia escolar. La asistencia se envía a tus familias y se incluye en las boletas de calificaciones.

No debes pedirle permiso a tu maestro de advisory para ir a otro lugar durante la clase. Si ya has reservado un lugar, debería darte permiso.
