What is the foundation of God’s throne?

Faith?

• Heb 11:6 | And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Love?

• 1 Corinthians 13:13 | So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

III. A Biblical Balance of Proper Outpouring

Forgiveness is NOT:

• On others’ timelines
• Forgetting
• Exemption of consequences
• Disregarding or disobeying God’s laws (or the laws of the land)

Pity and compassion

Christians are expected to be merciful (Matthew 5:7. James 2:13)

Mercy does/is NOT:

• Come when sins are NOT confessed and forsaken (1 John 1:9-10).
• Triumph over justice. It triumphs over judgment (James 2:13)
• The suspension of justice. Justice must also stand alongside mercy or else you will have neither.

Unmerited or undeserved favor.

While mainly attributed to God, Christians are to be gracious (Colossians 4:6; 1 Peter 2:19-20)

• God’s grace as an excuse for sin is reprehensible (Jude 1:4, Romans 6:1-2).
• God’s grace produces good works, not evil ones (1 Corinthians 15:10).
• Scorning God’s grace outrages God (Hebrews 10:29-31).

Affection, benevolence, charity

Christians are expected to be love (1 Corinthians 13:1-8; Romans 12:12-20)

Love does/is NOT:

• does not envy or boast
• is not arrogant or rude.
• does not insist on its own way;
• is not irritable or resentful;  
• does not rejoice at wrongdoing,

AND…Justice is NOT unloving

God is Just and the Justifier

Romans 3:21-26 

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it — (22)  the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.

For there is no distinction:  (23)  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  (24)  and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,  (25)  whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.

This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.  

(26)  It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Summary

1. The foundation of God’s throne are righteousness and justice. This imagery models our faith in action.
2. Love and faithfulness are a natural outpouring of righteousness and justice.
3. When we attempt to exercise forgiveness, grace, mercy and love without righteousness and justice, we risk corrupting them into something they are not.
4. While Satan accuses us, righteous character and just actions permit us to access grace by faith.
