Challenges Faced

The challenges we face before the activity are

  • Time constrain to encourage our friends to participant for the radio jingles competition. During our first trial promotion, only 2 teams (our classmates) that interested to join. However, we reached our target of 10 teams after we promoted this competition via Whatapps group, and classroom door to door promotion during the recess.

  • Writing scripts and communication skills for the sharing session. We lacked of confidence and experience when our mentor teacher challenge our team to share about about media literacy when we plan to speak among a huge group of audiences. However, we gained our confidence after encouraged by our mentor teacher and series of training face to face and virtually for one week with him. We able to gain our new knowledge and inspiring stories about media literacy when we surfed the internet from the trusted sources.

Outcomes Achieved

Our team members, The Media Mavericks.

We gained more knowledge about media literacy, valuable communication skills as an advocate to share knowledge and experience by speak in front of students and big crowds (much bigger than us). Besides that, we showed our talents by collaborate among us the mavericks to organize a school level competition successfully.

The students participants.

They learnt about media literacy and the role of media among teenagers. In addition, our sharing that targeting Form 1 to 4 school mates helped them to think critically and be able to emulate the contents that we have shared. As for our radio jingles competition, they showed wonderful co-operation with each other and create a healthy competition among themselves. They also learnt about how to become a content creator and advocates for media literacy by creating a short radio jingles about media literacy. During the project, they learnt the recent issue about media literacy, the reliable source to search for accurate information and polished their written and oral communication skills.

Feedback

In my opinion, they did a great job at sharing and explaining about the role of media and media in society expecially among the youth. We got to learn something new about advantages and disadvantages of social media. The way of them explaining was really good and easy to understand that really guilds up the hype. We really enjoy the experience and also grateful to be one of the lucky winner for the pop quiz. (NUR FARHANA BINTI JAMAL)

For media mavericks information, my team are really happy that we able to register as a participant in this competition because it helps to polish our skills in creating audio and video for a radio jingles (my very first experience). Besides that, im proud of myself able to become a content creator by spread awareness about media literacy in social media. We are also really grateful to be participating in this competition because it gave us a lot of new informations. (NURUL FARAH SAFIKAH BINTI SALI).

Lessons Learned #1

Based on the reflection discussion among three of us, we able to learn to think outside the box from our experience during this project especially during the sharing session. Besides that, we were able to carry out organizing competition activities that we carried out very well with the teacher’s guidance. From organizing an event, we learnt about perseverence, teamwork and the most important lesson is BE KIND AND LOVING WITH ONE ANOTHER. One of the most valuable experience as a Form 1 students in SMK SANZAC, we got our very first golden experience to speak in front of our schoolmate about media literacy. One of our teammate did cried in tears after his sharing on the stage for forgetting few keywords of his sharing BUT with the strong support from us to comfort him that he did a great job, we finally kicked in and showed great showmanship during the next sharing session in the radio jingles workshop! WE ARE HIGH-POWERED MEDIA MAVERICKS!

Lessons Learned #2

After this competition, we discussed with our teacher to expand our sharing not only among our school mates but also to our family and relatives at home during the upcoming school holiday. All three of us agreed that media literacy also important to them especially the working adults who easily become another victim from irresponsible individuals or group of criminals especially involving money. We hope we can share our experience we gained next during the final. How about the output of all amazing radio jingles? Of course, we talked to our principal and planned to broadcast it to all school communities during the next assembly during the new term school semester in March 2024. Stay tune!

Wonderful experience joining this competition! Its not all about the competition, its all about how the little and young teenagers like us can contribute to the society by educating them about media literacy. Next, we would like to express our thanks to our school principal and senior administrative assistance, Tuan Ajmal Jumah and Puan Noraini Abdullah school for allowing us to organize a sharing session and a school level competition for this program. We also thank our beloved teachers Madam Quek Lee Sin and Sir Kuit Vui Ket who have helped us a lot throughout the program. Last but not the least, we also want to thank the active participants and audiences who have made our program huge success and impactful to all of them.
