What is an IGP?

Purpose:IGPs help students connect their academic studies to their future aspirations and ensure they are on track for graduation and post-secondary success.

Content:These plans typically outline mandatory courses, track student progress, and map out student interests and goals.

Collaboration:IGPs are often developed through a collaborative process involving students, counselors, educators, and parents.

South Carolina:In South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Education requires all students to complete an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP).

IGP Conferences:Students in grades 8-12 are required to meet annually for an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) conference with their counselor and a parent/parents to plan courses related to college and career readiness.

IGP stands for Individual Graduation Plan. During IGP meetings, school counselors discuss general graduation requirements, coursework, and opportunities related to future goals.

GPA (Grade point average)

The 4.0 GPA is an at-a-glance way to understand a student’s academic performance based on a scaled system. GPA is calculated by finding the average of all of the grades in your classes based on a numeric scale:

A= 4.0

B= 3.0

C= 2.0

D= 1.0

F= 0.0

All course grades count in your GPA so always do your best as consistency is the key!

The SC UGP is a 10-point weighted scale where two course categories may receive additional weighting at the high school level:

  • an additional .5 for Honors; and
  • 1.0 for Advanced Placement and dual credit courses.

The weighted scale (SC UGP) is used for SC colleges and universities for admission and scholarships (out of state schools use the 4.0 scale)

When do I receive a report card?

There are eight reporting periods for high school students, four each semester. For 2025-26 these reporting periods will end:

What are final exams and EOCs?

A final exam is a comprehensive test (or its equivalent, like a project) that is given at the end of a course to test your overall knowledge of the course content. All high school courses have some form of comprehensive final exam that accounts for 20% of the final grade.

End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP), is a statewide assessment program that evaluates student mastery of content standards in Biology 1, Algebra 1, English 2 and US History with scores accounting for 20% of the final grade. These tests are mandatory.

Fall semester:

  • Oct 23rd
  • Jan 13th

Dec 19 is the end of Fall semester and the report card will contain final grades for Fall

Spring semester:

  • Feb 17th
  • June 16th

June 3 is the end of Spring semester and the school year. The report card will have final grades for both semesters.

Why Attendance Matters in High School

Did you know…

  • …students must earn twenty-four (24) units of credit in state-approved courses for graduation.

  • …students earn units in 2 ways:
    • by numerically passing the course with final grade of 60 or higher AND
    • by earning seat time in each course
      • a student can miss up to 6 unexcused days of a whole (1) unit course without penalty
      • a student can miss up to 3 unexcused days of a half (.5) unit course without penalty

What if a student …

  • …does not pass the course numerically and has attended school the required amount of time?
    • The student WILL NOT EARN the course AND
      • may need to retake the course, and
      • the numerical final grade will display on their report card/transcript.
  • …passes the class numerically with a final grade of 60 or above, but misses more than the allowable days?
    • The student WILL NOT EARN the course AND
      • may need to retake the course, and
      • a final grade of FA (Failure due to Attendance) will display on their report card/transcript.

NCAA Eligibility Information

NCAA eligibility is based on a student-athlete’s academic readiness and amateur status. If you’re thinking about playing college sports, it’s crucial to know what this means and now is the time to begin your plan.

{Add school contact information for AD and CDF}

As a Junior, you should:

  • Ensure your sports participation information is correct in your Eligibility Center account.
  • Check with your HS counselor to make sure you’re on track to complete the required number of NCAA-approved core courses and graduation requirements
  • Share your NCAA ID with NCAA schools recruiting you so each school can place you on its institutional request list
  • Take unofficial and official visits to NCAA schools you’re interested in attending and start applying early.
  • At the end of the school year, ask your HS counselor to upload your official transcript via the HS Portal
