Change in clubs and districts

  • We all have to become Action Plan Champions and contribute in changing our clubs to the better. Through this Rotary will become stronger.
  • This means we shall build on what we have, continuity is still important. It is just as important that Rotary and our clubs do not stagnate in old patterns. Use the Action Plan as a tool to reach a better experience of the club and its projects and activities

  • RIPE Stephanie Urchick’s message for next year: If a district or a club has done things in a certain way for a very long time, it is probably time to change the way we do them.

Rotary: Simply Irresistible

  • Rotary and Rotaract clubs will be simply irresistible to community members who have a heart for service and fellowship.
  • Use the Action Plan to assess where they are and figure out where they need to go. Hopefully the outcome is clubs that are more attractive and will retain more people.
  • Every club is different and develops its own culture. Country to country, Rotary is done differently. You can have Rotary clubs in the same district that are very different.
  • Clubs must ask themselves: Is there something we can do a little differently, or are we already doing the best we can in this or that category?
  • If you’re already irresistible, then stay that way. But we have to attract people to our existing clubs, and we have to start new clubs. That’s the way to grow Rotary and to have a future.

New Clubs

  • When we start new clubs it is necessary to be creative and innovative – new clubs should meet in different ways and on different times than clubs we already have.

  • We must follow Rotary’s guiding principles in the new clubs. We must follow the 4-way test, focus on service and fellowship (not either or, all of them, and Rotary is not only for social interactions), diversity, ethics, integrity, and leadership.

  • HOW Rotary is done – anything is possible!

  • Manage resistance to change.

Potential members

Everyone with a heart and hand for service belong in Rotary. Are we successful in making members and guest feel included in the club and in Rotary? Or can we change traditions and ways we don things to make everyone feel included?

  • Have a plan
  • Cooperation with clubs nearby
  • Invite potential members to join in activities and projects
  • Actively look for potential members
  • Inclusive and diverse
  • Take care of new members and new clubs

16 of 21

  • Survey your members to learn what’s important to them in their club experience and how they want to grow and develop through Rotary.
  • Everyone feels included. Activities and projects are easy to do and engage members.
  • Focus on engagement.
  • Examples: one day projects, donations, ideas, time.
  • All members must not do everything, but everyone must do something.
