What is Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI)?

CDL

Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) within CDL

Comprehensive Distance Learning provides core content instruction to all students in the district. It is mixed with synchronous and asynchronous learning and provides virtual supports, small groups and access to office hours

Limited in person learning purpose is:

  • Facilitating learning and assessment experiences that are not easily replicated virtually (special education evaluation)
  • Optional opportunity to meet the needs of students with limited internet, or who are struggling academically, or who may benefit from targeted engagement.

CDL can accommodate the full class of students, small groups and individual interventions

LIPI cohorts are limited to 20 students, No more than 20 students may be in a group, however, due to physical distance requirements, most PPS campuses can only accommodate between 12 and 20 students in a classroom.

CDL must provide core content instruction

LIPI must be supplemental learning and may be used for enrichment or intervention programs.

LIPI Considerations

Pre-K

Early Learners (K-3 focus)

6th / 9th

11th-12th

  • Can target specific groups with outreach
  • Participation criteria can be based on attendance, assessments, grades, engagement etc.
  • Identify who is in greatest need based on PPS Theory of Action and Guiding Principles
  • We strive to have every child to see themselves in LIPI offerings, as much as possible

Students in special education and emergent bilingual students

  • Must include how to support students in special education and emergent bilingual students in our plan.

Central Office supports and safety operating procedures (SOPs) to know about before implementing LIPI

  • Student and families impacted
  • Must include special education if offering other LIPI services
  • Transportation is available, will require ample time to plan routes
  • Facilities preparation
  • Nutrition
  • Staffing support
  • Cohorting
  • And many others depending on the service

Teacher Participation

  • Voluntary and may not replace CDL duties
  • Teachers will be paid one hour of planning per week of participation + time spent in LIPI
    • EX: A teacher teaches two afternoon LIPI sesssion for a total of 4 hours so the teacher would be paid for 5 hours for the week.

Limited In Person Instruction Activities

School-based activities implemented currently:

  • Childcare
  • Special Education Assessments
  • Outdoor Fitness Training for HS Students

Some ideas that we have heard thus far:

  • Outdoor experiences: CTE, Dance, Band, Choir
  • Indoor experiences: PK/Headstart, K - 3 (Early Elem), Foundational skills - early learning, Incoming 6th and 9th graders one day per week for homeroom only
  • In-person/hands-on learning: CTE, Science, Arts/Choir/Band/Dance

Schools can be very creative in their planning. Think about which students need the most support and how to creatively support them in a safe and collaborative way.

  • Target whole families for support
  • Collaborate with counselor for SEL lessons
  • SPED small group sessions
