HB2140 - Funeral services; Alkaline Hydrolysis)

  • Elimination of annual license renewal application to perpetual license with annual fee.
  • Increase inspections to every five years.
  • State exam will Continue.
  • Finalize pathway to licensure process.
  • Allow for confidential complaints.
  • Advisory council – director appointed as opposed to Governor.

  • House Commerce Committee 10-0
  • Full House Passage – 44-14-1
  • Senate Finance & Commerce Committee – 9-0 w/ Senator Mesnard Amendment
    • Inspection every 5 years (not 2)
    • No separate license for Alkaline Hydrolysis (may have to come back in the future)
    • Off-site cremation facilities
  • Next steps – Rules, Caucus and Full Senate Vote – Currently Talking with Senators and Staff to address the confusion regarding off-site or central cremation facilities
  • House will have to approve the Senate changes and final vote
  • Any issues / challenges with ADHS?
