Use of Drone and Satellite Technology to Combat Disasters
“Drones and Satellites for Urban Development” Challenge by Team Aether
Arda BOZ, Nisa AY, Selcan KOÇ, Eda Nehir DENİZ
Why Did We Choose This Challenge?
In recent years, we have experienced many disasters that have greatly affected our lives, and as a result, we realized that we are not enough in the process of disaster prevention and post-disaster recovery around the world. For this reason, we worked on the measures and plans that can be taken before, during and after the disaster in the application and project we developed.
In 53 provinces 270 forest fires
broke out in Turkey in August 2021.

Mapping of Cities Before Disasters
Example risk maps provided by NTT Data.
Mapping of Cities After Disasters
Organizing search and rescue activities by providing 3D modeling of destroyed or damaged areas during disasters by using drone and satellite technologies.
In the aftermath of the 2015 Nepal earthquake, drones assisted in creating 3D maps and models through image processing software. These aided in assessing the widespread damage, operating search and evacuation missions, reconstructing buildings and preserving areas of the city.
