What is teamwork?

6 of 12

Teamwork is...

The act of working together on a task.

Not two people each doing half of the work, but each member doing different parts of a holistic activity.

Capitalizes on each person's individual ability

Roles  (jobs)

  • Leader - Not the boss, but the person who feels most comfortable with the task and can DELEGATE (give out) responsibilities.  Must be mature and must communicate well
  • Recorder / Scribe - Keeps track of what is done and said.  Produces the written product of the group.  Must have excellent writing skills
  • Reporter - Orally reports the groups results.  Must be an excellent speaker
  • Information Gatherer - Often a shared role.  This is the task of researching and finding necessary bits of information
  • Timekeeper - makes sure the group is staying on task so it doesn't run out of time

SPI 0701.2.7 Select the most appropriate behaviors for participating productively in a

team (e.g., ask primarily relevant questions that move the team toward its goal and contribute to the topic of discussion, articulate the goals that have been provided for the team work and ask clarifying questions, come to agreement by seeking consensus or following the majority).

SPI 0701.2.8 I dentify the functions and responsibilities of individual roles within an
