Guidelines & Tips for Using this Template

Make a copy of this template. Use this template as a guide to create a custom presentation that fits the 360 wraparound screen of the Visualization Gallery at Hill Library.

Add new slides (Ctrl+M) to add your own content. You can remove the sample slides/content and change the background.�
Click through the next slides for some tips on how you can use the Visualization Gallery to present your content using Google Slides. For more rich presentations containing a lot of high resolution images, videos, and animations, contact your Libraries consultant for other options.

Above each slide there is a set of visual guides to help orient how slides display in the Visualization Gallery. The orange box represents the door in the Visualization Gallery and the blue lines split the room into eight parts with one marking the “front” of the Gallery. See slide 5 for more information.�
Ensure all images are high quality, even if you can’t tell the difference between high and low quality images on your computer screen (150 dpi minimum)

Remember to not enlarge your images after placing them. If an image appears too small after adding, check the image resolution to ensure it is the appropriate size for the space you envision for it on the slide.

There is a resolution limit in Google slides of 1,500×1,500px for images. When working with a large panoramic picture, it is helpful to use Photoshop’s Slicer tool, then Export > Save for Web. This will help to split up a large image into smaller, usable ones that can be realigned in Google Slides. See slide 6 for more information.

Use slide animations to make your presentation dynamic- see slide 8 for an example. However, do not use slide transitions as they tend to behave unpredictably in the Visualization Gallery.

Things to Consider for Wraparound Presentations

You can take a range of approaches in presenting your content on the screen:

You can use large text and a lot of empty space to make a statement,
or you can fill up the entire screen with text and graphics, creating visual stepping stones with shapes, colors and line.

As you’re creating your slides, think about how you want your audience to orient in the space when you present:

Do you place your content in front of the room and have your audience facing the front as you talk? or do you want your content to move from one end of the screen to the other and walk around the room as your present? If you are presenting as a group, do you want each of you to take a portion of the room and present in order or do you want to all stand together in one area?

Use the blue and orange ribbon above each slide on the template to orient yourself to this space and the size of the screen, when you are crafting your slides on your own computer.

Finding panoramic images that are large enough and have the correct aspect ratio is very difficult. Most existing images will need to be cropped or edited to fill the entire space. Stretching an image results in warping and pixelation. In the example on this slide, the student used Photoshop to edit an existing panoramic image.

Google Slides has an upload limit, so large images need to be sliced and uploaded in smaller chunks.

How to use Photoshop’s Slicer Tool to make high resolution panoramic images work the Visualization Gallery:

Create a new Photoshop project that is the dimensions of the image you would like to use.
Place your high-res image on the workspace
Click on the crop tool and select “slice tool”
Right click on your file, then select Divide Slice.
Slice your image into useable chunks. For the above example, 8 chunks were sliced from the original image.
Click File → Export → Save for web
Select all of your slices (you may have to zoom out to see them all), at the top right of the window make sure it says you are saving them as jpegs and click Save.
Drag each individual slice to this template and realign the slices
