Extracting a Sketch from a Face of A Dumb Object

  1. Go to Draft Workbench
  2. Press Downgrade (it is a downwards arrow) in Draft Workbench. This simplifies the solid objects to Faces
  3. From Face, select face, and use Sketcher to Extract Geometries from face.

  1. On the left you will find all the Faces. Scroll on them to find which one is the one that you want to simplify more and select it.
  2. With that Face selected Press the Downgrade again. It will simplify that Face to Wire
  3. Select the Wire that interests you and press the “Draft to Sketch” command.

Procedure for Sprint vs Alternative procedure in a constrained Assembly

  • Download CEB Press FreeCAD file
  • Extract the part (copy and paste)
    1. Do not move the part, so it will retain correct position when merged back into the final assembly
  • Make changes in the part
  • Save part - Save individual file on your log
  • Merge into CEB Final Assembly
  • Just before uploading into Final Assembly, check that you have the latest version
  • Compress and upload Final Assembly to the wiki
  • Extract DXF file for CNC cutting from the FreeCAD file
  • Save the DXF to your log and to CEB Press Part Library

1. Download the CEB CAD Assembly Constrained file

2. Download the part/module/subassembly from the Part Library

3. Make changes to the part. No worries about its location. Ideally each part should be designed in the origin, where symmetries are easily aplpied

4. Save part - Upload individual file to the Parts Library

5. Press the “Update parts imported in the assemby” from the “Assembly 2” workbench in Freecad. Ignore any error messages of not finding other imported parts, but update the location of the edited part that you download earlier.

6. Save the CEB CAD Assembly Constrained file as well and upload it back to the wiki.7. In case the edited part belongs to a module, and that module belongs a subassembly, all the above hierarchy should be updated.

8. Same as left column for DXF files. In case of a totally new part, plz constrain the part to the hierachy above. A part is considered fully constrained when the command “Animate Degrees of freedom” under “Assembly 2” workbench shows no movable items.

In objects with Planes. usually 3 constraints are needed. In objects with circles, usually only 1 circularEdge constraint is needed, plus changing the “lock rotation” property of the constraint to “True”

Procedure for Sprint

  • Download FreeCAD file
  • Extract the drawer (delete everything else)
  • Create a CEB Press Part Library
    • Drawer, Frame, Hopper, Legs and Feet, Main Cylinder, Secondary Cylinder, Controller, Solenoid Valve
  • Generate new DXF - single one
  • Organize CEB Press Part Library - by updating the DXF of overall
    • Use 4x8 sheet for OSE CNC Torch

Change 1 - Move Rod Holes Down as far as possible

8 of 19

Change 2 - Add Rods

Length of rods:

  1. Side by the cylinder -
  2. Side opposite cylinder side -

Change 3 - Design rod holder

1” brass bushing + 3D printed holder

  • Hole for 1” bushing
  • Fits 1” brass bushing - this one
  • 1” bushing holds 1” steel guide rod
  • 4 of these total, just like in current machine
  • 3D printed plastic holder
  • Steel plate on top of plastic 3Dd print
  • ¾” bolt for attachment

Spacers can be added on the bottom to get height adjustment. Adjustable laterally by ⅛”.

Filament Maker Sprint

  • Take full CAD
  • Label All Parts with bubbles - reconcile with Master Index
  • Create a realtime Completion Narrative around FreeCAD
    • Analyze FreeCAD for missing parts
    • Other people pick up creation of missing parts
    • Continue through the FreeCAD narrative
  • Anyone completing parts:
    • Generates CAD file
    • Fills in Master Index with part
    • Adds sourcing or file link to part in Master Index
  • End state - a Master Index that is complete upon part analysis
