Reading Books VS Watching Movies

I like both watching movies and reading books. They both have positive and negative sides. For instance, books help with your imagination and reading helps you improve your reading skills, but if you do it too much or in the dark you can ruin your eyes.

The same goes for movies - watching films is a good and entertaining way to relax, but with this you can also ruin your eyes. And if we compare them, books take longer time to read than to watch a movie. When a movie is based on a book, the book definitely has more details.

Finally, I prefer books because, even though movies take less time, books are more interesting and more entertaining.

Reading books is a fun activity which I enjoy doing. It is also really helpful because when you read you learn new words and this expands your vocabulary. You also practise reading and your grammar is improving, no matter whether you read in your mother tongue or a foreign language. When you read a book the author makes you imagine the characters and scenes only by the way they describe them, and that is good because you can let your imagination run free.

When I read, I prefer to be alone because when there is someone with me, I get distracted. The only two bad things about reading are that, firstly - it has to be bright around you, so you can see what you are reading, and secondly - it has to be quiet so you can concentrate.

I love watching movies and I do it almost every day. It is a relaxing and fun activity. I usually do it in my free time or when I am bored. I like it that much because it helps me forget about all the things I have to do and just enjoy the moment. I think that some movies are better to watch with friends because it’s more entertaining. The only bad thing about watching movies is that it is tiring for your eyes.

So, it is really difficult for me to choose whether I prefer to read a book or to watch a movie.

Reading books or watching movies? Why not combine them and watch a movie based on a book? However, making a movie out of a book can only take limited information from the book. You also need to add some visual effects to make a movie more interesting and exciting. The content of the story changes significantly and many things are omitted while converting a book into a movie. Another advantage of books is that they are portable – you can be carry them everywhere and read online at any time.

But movies, no doubt, have their advantages too. You can watch them at any time, while it is not recommended to read in the evening when the light is insufficient. In addition, movies can use new technology to create nice fantasy scenes that you can enjoy with your eyes. Another reason why I prefer to watch movies is that reading a book takes longer time, while watching a movie takes a couple of hours and it tells you the whole story. This way you are more informed in a shorter time.

When you read a book, you can imagine everything in different ways. People who read are more active in every area of life. Reading reduces stress and lifts your spirits. It also improves your memory and concentration. Sometimes reading can be unhealthy if you read when it’s dark outside. This may cause eye problems. The same is possible if you read under a night lamp.

With movies you can learn more in a shorter time. You can enjoy a movie with your friends and family. However, if a movie is based on a book, it can never provide all the information that a book contains. Movies can also cause eye problems if you are in front of the screen for a long time.

In conclusion, it’s difficult for me to decide what I like more, since I like both reading books and watching movies a lot.

Writing a book is harder than making a movie because you need to think of an interesting plot and create strong characters. Then you need to edit the draft and find someone who will publish the book. To make a movie you need to find brilliant actors, capable directors and skilled cameramen. You need well written script and lively dialogue, and then you just shoot the movie. If the movie is based on a book they remove and add scenes, and this changes the story quite a lot.

One advantage of books is that when you read a book you enrich your vocabulary in the language. But to read you need from hours to months, while watching movies takes 2 to 3 hours. To buy books you need money and then you need space to store them. If you want to watch a movie you can simply watch it online or download it on your device.

And still, I prefer books, because reading is more interesting and more satisfying.

Reading and watching movies are hobbies, which people love and often ask each other what they prefer. Unfortunately, more than ninety-one percent of people choose watching movies, but there’s a small percentage of people who love reading. I love reading too. Some of my favorite books are “IT” by Stephan King and “Brief Answers to the Big Questions” by Stephen Hawking. The movies which I like to watch are based on books like “It”, “Harry Potter”, “The Jungle Book”.

What I prefer: reading or watching movies?

When you start reading a book you can’t put it down and you can read for hours. You just lose your mind in the book. You imagine all the details that are described very well. However, when you read you can’t see the actions and you can’t hear the voices of the characters, you have to imagine them. While in movies you can actually see and hear the actors and it is funnier than reading a book, because you can watch a movie with your friends. One problem with movies or series is that you can’t stop watching until the end.

In movies you can actually see what the characters look like and you can see their expressions. You can hear their voices and see the background. If you watch a movie for a long time, though, you can get a headache. Some movies (especially scary ones) can affect you a lot and you can even get traumatized after watching such a film.

Reading books improves your skills, especially if you read in a foreign language. You can learn words and phrases that you haven’t seen before and you can use later. When you buy a new book and you smell it, it feels like you are in heaven.

Reading books can give you more details than watching a movie. Among other things, it helps your brain function. Watching movies is great for your social life and a great form of entertainment. Both reading books and watching movies help in stress relief and the expansion of your knowledge and vocabulary. I myself prefer watching movies.
