Radio Etiquette

  • Press and hold the PTT for 0.5*1 second before talking
  • Hold the radio up right
  • Don’t use personal name full names
    • (You are in a public square everyone is listening)
    • Call signs or code names are best
  • Over: use "Over" to indicate you are finished speaking and waiting for a response
  • Out: "Out" to indicate the conversation is finished.
  • Clear, concise, and correct

  • Common Phrases:
    • "Go ahead" / "Message received": Acknowledging you heard the message.
    • “Stand by": Telling someone to wait.
    • "Say again": Requesting a repeat of the last message.
  • Common Mistakes to Avoid:
    • Cutting off the beginning: Caused by talking immediately after pressing PTT.
    • "Stepping on" others: Transmitting while someone else is talking.
    • Overloading the channel: Long, unnecessary conversations.

Copy: Meaning is same as that of read.. used as “do you copy?”

  • Check/Copy that: Message is understood
  • Read back: Repeat this message back to me

  • Acknowledge: Confirm that you understand my message
