Previously on Dark Jedi Brotherhood Vendettas

  • Arcona, and the DJB as a whole, was dispatched to a remote planet to help stop tensions from breaking out between our “ally” organizations, The Tenixir Revenants (Pirates) and the Severian Principate (Imperial Remnant).

  • During this process, the different sub-factions pursued different goals, but the end result was such:
    • Radical members of the Principate created Force-enhanced soldiers from stabbing them with Force-Crystals
    • A new enemy emerged called “The Seer”, who also was turning her followers into Force-imbued soldiers by stabbing them with Force-crystals.

  • It’s been a while since we’ve had any run-ins with this “Seer”, but intel gave way to knowledge of a new enemy: The Children of Mortis

Pre-War Summary

  • Arcona dealt with its ongoing feud with the local deity and repelled a global attack by their enemy, the Caxquettes.
  • House Qel-Droma recently dealt an internal conflict on Port Ol’val between the Cartel’s and the Paladins.
  • House Galeres quelled a nascent civil war brewing on Eldar, firmly asserting Arconan political power and Galerian military dominance over the Keadeans and Sardinians.
  • Now, Arcona’s home is under attack. Again. This time, by the Children of Mortis.

Great Jedi War XV

The Children of What-now?

“Seizing an opportunity, the Children have launched a surprise assault on the capital systems of all seven Clans. In the vanguard, impossible Force-twisted abominations and gravity-defying crystal asteroids have established beachheads in each system. Still reeling from the Collective’s near-destruction of Arx, the forces of the Dark Council are unable to respond in strength. For now, the Clans are on their own.”

The War Begins

Summary

  • In the Muisyle System, Avitus Oligard reflects on his time with The Children, as well as how his personal experience with The Brotherhood has shaped their war plans.
  • In the Throne Room on Arx, the Grand Master continues to insist the clans be ready to defend Arx when The Children attack.
  • The alarms sound, and it is not Arx being attacked, but the home systems of the clans.
  • Our allies The Principate are unable to assist due to their continued demilitarization efforts following the events on Dandoran.
  • The Grand Master orders the Council’s Fleet to remain, hoping to consolidate the research conducted by the clans into a method to stop The Children.
  • The Children’s attack takes place simultaneously through the clans’ home systems.
    • A crystalline asteroids approach the systems from deep space, followed by ships of The Children.
    • Attempts to destroy the asteroid only speed it up.
    • The Children’s advanced ships cut through the clans’ defenses as the asteroids slow down their approach impacting on the surface below.
    • The clans’ ground side defenses begin to combat Children forces, as the crystals from the asteroids take hold and grow.
    • Many of the clans face horrible gas attacks, which once inhaled, lead to ascension upon death. Those that stored crystals away are spared this, as The Children focus on recovering what has been hoarded away.
    • The full assault of The Children, and their three sub-factions begins.
  • The Council goes into crisis mode, hoping the clans can hold on long enough for the research to be completed.
  • Back in the Muisyle System, The Father takes control of the Harbinger for a moment to praise Avitus on his valuable information. In the distance, Avitus hears the screams of Saira O’Setera, as the pains of labor take hold over her.

FAQ

Question: What are these crystals? Where do they even come from? What the what?

The crystals have been a building plot for a couple years now. They first became this known, to a few, seemingly valuable commodity mostly mistaken for kyber crystals when, originally, the Collective was looking into various technologies and other power sources to create their superweapons and mega AI that would accomplish their genocide against all Force-touched. We first see these crystals thereof, when Avitus Oligard, Force-User, cousin, and emotionally abused right hand to Rath Oligard, leader of the Collective, hears them whispering to him.

Later, the Tenixir Revenants (TR) and the Severian Principate (SP), two factions who would soon be involved in Shenanigans ™ thanks to the Dark Brotherhood (DB)'s nefariousness, eventually both came into contact with those same crystals when on the SP colony world that the Collective attacked as a false flag operation to discredit the DB and ruin their attempted alliance with the SP. The crystals began drawing on other people, including the SP folks. The TR pirates, meanwhile, opposed to the SP for imprisoning them, found the importance of the crystals artificially inflated via "our enemy wants them so get them before they do". The SP found some of these crystals, the TR also eventually began to hunt for them, and all the while, we see a third party, the mysterious Seer, seems to know about the crystals that everyone else is ignorantly chasing.

After the Collective attack on Arx, we the DB get our hands on a lot of crystals the Collective had collected. Then, on Dandoran, as everyone of the 3 groups arrives there because a powerful Pizza Hutt obtained some crystals and we think it might be the same kind, we realize that the SP had any at all, and had been Imperials doing Imperial things experimenting with them to make super soldiers. Turns out, those soldiers are a little hard to control and fucking monstrous. They are loose on Dandoran, and we fight them. In the midst thereof, we see the Seer arrive to taunt the DB and introduce her own crystal creature, what she and her people, the Children of Mortis (CoM) call an Ascended. Unlike the super soldiers, this creature can use the Force because of its semi-Asecnded state. We are NOW seeing more of how that works and where they come from, with the full dive into the CoM, who were previously off screen/background.

Presently, we the audience know that full Ascension, to the Children of Mortis, involves becoming a crystal. This is why they whisper. They are the trapped souls of people who have died to the Ascension process. These crystals can be used to make more powerful creatures, weapons, armor, etc. While previously Ascension was a difficult ritual, the CoM has refined it into a gas delivery, making things much more dangerous.

FAQ

Question: Okay but where did the crystals come from? How did the SP or the Collective originally get them if they come from the CoM?

This is a little more vague. The CoM have been around a very, very long time. Assume some crystals got around the galaxy. Additionally, and more likely, the CoM were interested in the Brotherhood, but could not draw them out or get past their defenses/security/find them. Seeding the crystals into the galaxy to eventually get all these players into place was their plan.

FAQ

Question: Okay, I read, but why do the CoM care about us?

To them, we have several things they want (knowledge we've hoarded as another old big force organization, and the crystals we've gathered they want "back") and most of all we are..well, FUs that aren't them. To them they're about freeing or "unchaining" the Force and essentially anyone not them is using it wrong, further enslaving it.

If they want to free it, we gotta go.

Their motto is "chains unbound." Get yourself a brownie point with that.

FAQ

Question: Why do I/my characters care?

For us, we've seen around Arcona what these crystals can do. They're bad, and they should be yeeted into a sun. But also, they're currently on our lawn setting it on fire and attacking with crystal raptors. This is the one question we don't have to worry about. They're here, so we fight.

FAQ

Question: Isn't there some planet called Mortis? Is this familiar? What's up with the Father and ALL THESE NPCS GOD

Mortis was a planet in The Clone Wars show. It has 3 literal actual GODS of the Force, the Daughter, Father, and Son. Like they can Ressurect and shapeshift and Avatar State and shit. Anakin, Obi Wan, and Ahsoka encounter them. They are referenced again in Rebels as mythological figures. They weren't supposed to be real. But we the viewer already know they are.

In universe, these are the figures that the Children base themselves and their ideologies upon, Light, Gray, and Dark. Think of it like a real world cult that preaches to be the second coming of [insert messiah here] or a deity. We do not know much about the Father of the CoM, but they as a whole are not any of those three gods, and do no reside on Mortis. Thus, "children of". They're like a spin-off.

As for the many named NPCs, Xen made an organizational chart for it, and you can see basic summaries in the TLDRs of each fiction chapter. We have not met all of them yet, and we may never. We don't know. Right now, you can focus on their leaders, if you are so inclined: Homelander I mean Harbinger, the big Light leader, Loremi, the Gray leader, and the Seer, the Dark leader. Above them is the Father. They have Plans ™. But those are a little secondary to our homes being attacked.
