  • For 35 states with enrollment data, almost 700,000 high school students were enrolled in computer science
  • For 19 states with enrollment data, almost 350,000 middle school students were enrolled in computer science
  • Next year we want to see data from EVERY state!

2023 Policy Highlights

  • Ten states have adopted nine or ten policies: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Nevada, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Washington.
  • North Carolina, North Dakota, and Rhode Island adopted a graduation requirement in computer science.
  • Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Hampshire funded computer science education for the first time.
  • More than $120 million was allocated for computer science.

  • Congress facing November 17th deadline for addressing government funding
  • Labor, Health and Human Services and Education spending bill could be on the House floor next week
    • Over 300 amendments have been filed
    • Education advocates continue to oppose the partisan House bill in favor of the Senate bipartisan bill
    • Resolution of FY 2024 spending not until next year
  • Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) introducing resolution to support National STEM Day; Code.org endorsed
